Mitchell Meyers Commitment

There is always one.

It's an honest question, but thanks for jumping on me about it.

I don't pay attention to recruiting....at all. So I have no idea when the big boys start making their offers, but it seems to make sense that those recruits who truly believe they will be getting offers from bigger/better schools would hold out for those offers to come, especially a guy from Texas.

I call a spade a spade and in the previous posts you seemed to come off as another pessimistic poster. I didn't jump all over you, simply implied that there are always people that refuse to see the good in a situation.

There are only so many offers you can put out in a certain period of time. There are plenty of players ISU would and will offer once they have time to look at them, but by chance or for some other reason ISU hasn't gotten to them yet. The same goes for every other D1 school.

As the months go by more offers will come to these guys or at least they would if they hadn't committed so early. Depends on if they shut down their recruitment or not.

It happened last year and it will happen often when you are getting commits this early.

No mention of CF in the Meyer thread on CR; so you are stirring ****.

Rebecacy mentioned earlier in this thread it was taken down soon after she brought it to the attention of the CF community....which is why it's no longer there; she's not trying to stir ****, simply making something known about someone getting upset at CR & then possibly realizing the error of their ways as it's been pretty well documented that the original info on the commit came from a tweet (Bobby L @ the Trib), which is a free service.

'She' is a he and he has an axe to grind with CR.

You mean you were jumping to conclusions. If you weren't implying that I was one of those people that refuse to see the good in a situation, you wouldn't have quoted my post.

Anyway, I'm always looking to find the good in a situation, it's pretty much the only thing we can do as ISU fans. But pulling recruits away from FIU, FAU and Memphis (just throwing out lower tier programs) doesn't really light up a fan base, at least not the casual fans. And let's be honest, most fans are NOT true fanatics, they are casual fans. Whether it's right or wrong, fans want to see that we can occasionally pull recruits away from the big programs.

I used to kind of follow recruiting, but then found that it seemed like a lot of the highly touted guys ended up doing little on the field. I've just resorted to waiting to see them on the field and how they perform there before tagging a guy as a "good get" or a "waste of a scholarship." My question about other BCS offers was an honest one, as someone who doesn't follow the process, I'm genuinely curious.

Interesting. Thanks for the insight.

I see this hasn't been mentioned yet: This offer not only already gives a Dline body. He has said he will play DT, which is great but if that doesn't happen he could be a SDE as well which is also a need. This is a very solid pick up. I don't think it's on the level of Pompey but it's very solid. This gives us a little more flexibility on the Dline. Whoever we get now, saves us some time at that position and gives us more time to go get other guys. That's a big deal. We can look and see five guys who I think are quality recruits. That's five less guys we have to sell to come to ISU. That's not to say we don't have to continue to pay them attention because we obviously hope that other teams court them because it makes us feel warm and fuzzy that we have something someone else wants.

Meyers will play DT per Bobby

In watching his video highlights, I thought DT as well. He looks to have the frame to put on bulk and move inside. He also sheds blockers well and had very good quickness. This young man looks to be a very good pickup at a position of great need.

Quan West has a Michigan offer, Rohach is getting alot of attention from the pac-12 and Boise State, and Hill was offered by Iowa. Jake Knott had a tweet saying his bro was still getting interest from Big 12 schools, and Meyers is a guy that will be getting more offers: top 100 Texas kid. Just some things to get excited about.

Quan West link to West's Michigan offer, not sure how legit it is, but 24/7 is going to be a very good site within the next couple of years.

Great pick up! Solid size and definitely plays against excellent competition.

The only way ISU can go into Texas and net solid recruits worthy of playing at the southern Big 12 powers is to find kids under the radar. Until ISU competes consistently this is the recipe, IMO.
