Might as well keep these posts going…that was a HUGE win!

This team is very good. They will likely be a #2 seed or #3 seed in Omaha and they have the ability to get to the Final 4 with the right draw. They are every bit as good as the 1999-00 and 2000-01 teams. They respond to getting punched in the face and they can dominate games from start to finish on the road. If they get to 13-5 they will get a share of the title. Take care of business against Tech.

Such a luxury to have three guards of the all around quality of Lipsey, C. Jones, and Gilbert. Pav looks much improved especially against a physical team like Cincy. Wasn’t Milan’s night, but remember last year when Tamin was the only guard we really had who could handle the press? Some of his passes are starting to remind me of Tyrese.

No just no. Excited for this team, and they are so far proving how good they are, but they are not as good as the 99-00 team.

I’m beyond elated with our play and what this team has accomplished, how they’ve grown, how they are coached, etc.

But I just wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight without commenting here: This squad is no where near the 99-01 squads. That’s not meant to be disrespectful in any way, but sincerely - no, they are not even close. 2 of our best 3 to 5 players EVER were leading those squads, 2 elite 1st team All-Americans - squads that played as tough and physical as any Cyclone team ever (yes, including TJ’s teams).

Relative to CBB this year - our current team has a great resume, great metrics, is playing tough, is improving game after game, is winning home and away - all GREAT things. No reason to compare or conflate this with the single greatest 2 year run in Iowa State history. Had the Big 12 gotten ANY respect nationally 25 years ago, those squads would have been ranked in the top 3 ALL year and been in contention for the overall #1 seed. Yes, Iowa State unequivocally THAT good then.

And the cool part is - this team THIS year can still have an amazing year, could conceivably get a 2 seed, make the same type of Elite 8 run, etc. And it would be awesome!

I can give you 99-00 as being better than this year, but it’s closer than you say. You’re thinking of how that team played against other 99-00 teams. I’d love to be able to see this year’s team defend that team.

This year’s team is easily better than the 00-01 team. Tinsley was amazing in willing the team to winning the Big 12 title, but the Big 12 was no where near what it is today. The rest of the team was pretty average.

I'd like to see the two teams match up. The squads with Niang and Morris should be in the conversation as ISU's best also. I'm not wanting to look ahead, but next year could be really good. Lipsey, Gilbert, Jones, Pav,Milan,Omaha, Watson,Rock, Fish, Hamilton, the 2 freshman, and I'm guessing a post in the transfer portal. That team will be salty. Guessing someone might leave, but too strong a core not to be good.

And cruised despite shooting 28% from 3 while Cincy shot 39% and Cincy nearly doubling up our offensive rebounds. This team is well-rounded enough and good enough to make sure that an opponent usually can't beat them by doing just one or two things well.
It still doesn't feel like they've put a complete game together in conference play. Hopefully it's next Monday.

Not to mention a giant foul disparity, too.

These mostly, low blood pressure games are boring .
Honestly, not accustomed to "this," no matter the sport.

Great time go be a Cyclone, whether it's men's bb, fb, Breece, TH, #262, Monty, Will Mac.
Note. WM commentary, despite limited playing time. Nothing but positive.
Damn good times.

I can’t make it to Hilton on Saturday and I’m legit upset about it. It’s been since the Hoiball days that I’ve fretted over misssing games.

Also, how awesome is our schedule to get mostly weekend conference games?

Taking the air out of a home crowd early is pretty fun. Winning is fun. I never thought that in the 2nd week in February ISU would be atop an absolutely loaded Big 12 standings. This season is fun!

As far as a literal matchup, I’ll take a good team today vs about any team from a quarter of a century ago. The average skill, size and athleticism of guys is significantly better.

But relative to CBB at its time the 99-00 would’ve been favored in the FF and NCG had they gotten past a road game against MSU.

This team can get close though. It’s that good.

I wouldn’t put the best Fred team there quite even if Niang doesn't break his foot. After UConn they prob would’ve been underdogs the rest of the way even with healthy Niang.
