Michigan State vs. Iowa

Snowflake. Takes a special kind of butt hurt to start calling a rival that when you're on their board confused as to why your team isn't getting warm fuzzies......
.

Amazing isn't it. But what else would you expect from Hawkeye fans.

Iowa's a top 5 team if they beat Stanford and they aren't if they lose. Pretty simple

Nobody on their right mind would rather lose the game.

However, if you told me at the beginning of the year that Iowa's consolation prize for losing the big ten title game was the rose bowl, I would have throat punched you.

Lol. I'm not sure if the throat punch would have been because you thought I was a nut case, or that's your way of expressing happiness?

But no seriously, a couple weeks ago there was debate between Iowa fans about whether they would rather get throttled in the cfp, or go to the rose bowl.

Probably a little bit of both.

And I do remember that conversation. Personally I'd rather lose by 60 on the cfp than go to the rose bowl, but this is an excellent consolation.

Unfortunately, I think Stanford is a matchup the Hawks want. Like when they played Georia Tech, I think this fell right in their laps and they match up prett well, as opposed to if they played a Houston, maybe.

I hate to say it, but I think Iowa beats Stanford.

two things:
1)Stanford OL > MSU OL If Michigan State could run the ball on the final drive Stanford will crush Iowa.
2) Hogan, he nearly has a 100 QBR against teams in the AP 25. MSU was moved the ball in the air with an injuried QB. Iowa will get shell shocked against a better passing team.

I'm not saying Iowa is better than Stanford. Stanford is just more the of team Iowa is built to play.

Could the collective playcalling be any more vanilla in this game? 90% of all playcalls were in front of the defenders. Minimal shots downfield, and when Iowa did go deep they got an 85 yard touchdown and a 15 yard pass interference call. 100 yards directly attributed to aggressive playcalls. Call me crazy, but trying to stretch the defense is not a new concept and clearly puts the pressure on the defense. My buddy was pulling for Iowa and even he couldn't believe the blah schemes coming from both sidelines. Gonna have to open things up when playing teams from modern conferences.

That's why the "amazing defenses" argument is whack. When there's only about 10 possibilities, and 8 of them are some variation of run slightly right or left of center and the other two square in passes it's no wonder the defenses look so "good". Those offenses are easy to defend.

Stanford lost to NW, they aren't great, beat USC and an extremely overrated ND team. I think the Hawks beat them in a game similar to last night.

No to mention, they run the play clock down every single play. I would expect about the same type of "defensive" battle with MSU playing Alabama.

Stanford is the most "Big Tenish" of Pac 12 teams.

They didn't win a slug it out game last year.

I'm a little disappointed Iowa won't get to play an elite spread offense this year but there's always next year if they manage to win in Indy next time.
