Michigan State Coaching Search

I would hope you dont have any left for them after all the other BS theyve pulled
Not for like their administration no.. I just mean strictly from a football standpoint. Growing up in NE Iowa, when I wasn't in Ames, Iowa State wasn't on much because not everyone was. And I wasn't going to watch Dry Puke and Iowa. Always loathed Notre Dame.

So as a kid, I rooted for Michigan State and it kind of stuck with me. Because they weren't as blue of a blue blood as Michigan and Ohio State, etc, and in a weird way, kinda like how I became a Lions fan.

I've got no respect for how they've handled different situations. From covering up and ignoring it seems a laundry list of bad situations. But other than Iowa State, Michigan State's a team I'd rather see win than iowa, Michigan or Ohio State etc. I guess that's what I meant.

Phil Parker was an all-BIG10 DB at MSU.
True but I don't see them going after an assistant. I don't want CMC to leave and I don't want Leipold to leave Kansas State or Klieman to leave K-State etc because I think they are both good for the future of the conference.

But realistically anyone associated with the search at Michigan State needs to be fired if any of those 3 individuals aren't called and asked about potential interest

Here’s my deal, except for the money, why would either take the job?
Michigan State's played in the college football playoff. Got murdered, but played.
Slightly easier to recruit.
Once Izzo leaves / retires, you could dominate that university if you have success.
With the playoff expansion coming and expanded Big 10, if you probably have a extra play or two to the playoffs depending on how large expansion eventually becomes.

Klieman has already come out and said he has no interest in that job.

Klieman told Sirius XM's "Big 12 Today" that he will "be sticking in Manhattan [Kansas] and will not be a candidate for that job." His name had surfaced as a potential candidate after he led Kansas State to a Big 12 championship in 2022.

Leipold is a Big 10 guy albeit Wisconsin.
Campbell grew up in Ohio.

While Iowa and Kansas are not on the other side of the moon, they could make the close about it being closer to home

I listened to the Williams and Miller podcast & Miller said he was told by a source that is close to the KSU coaching staff that Klieman is NOT in the coaching profession for the long haul & 2030 (when his current contract is done) could be his last year. That said, I would be all in favor of Klieman leaving K-State earlier than 2030!
I don't buy it, football coaches, out of any profession, stick it out and stay longer than they should usually.

You brought up Liepold. NW still had an interim, Indiana could make a change, MSU is open, Michigan could open.
Lots of opportunities.

Try but I hope not. I think for the future of the Big 12, while it may result in an extra loss or two every so often keeping Leipold and Klieman in conference is big.

Which was the one reason I was disappointed with Wisconsin hiring Fickell. If Fickell had stayed at Cincinnati you would have had

Klieman
Leipold
Campbell
Fickell
Grundy's proven he hasn't lost his touch just yet

and then coming in

Deion
Whittingham

That would have been a really good stable of mostly young, great coaches. Fickell left but hopefully the rest stay

Sounds like you really don't want anyone to leave Kansas State.

From my view Klieman would be insane to think about MSU. Yes they could realistically pay more money. However, KSU is a better program overall, has the chance of replacing OU as the Big 12s premier program potentially a consistent cleaner path to the playoffs. At MSU he’d always be number 2 in their own state in a program that at best can achieve consistent middle of the pack status especially now that the 4 western schools joining.

Liepold on the other hand would make a lot of sense. KU is having a great stretch but as we’ve seen historically it’s generally short lived. Which in reality is what MSU is, a few good years but normal is mediocrity. Might as well get paid a hell of a lot more to do it.

Klieman could've left his previous job earlier than the KSU opening. I know we see too many coaches chase dollars but we've seen several now that know they have a good thing and chasing dollars will screw that up. By the end of his contract Klieman will have made $40+ million. $40 million! He could leave for MSU, end that contract early and be fired from MSU in three years.

This is why we've also seen Campbell stay. Campbell is 42 and by the time his current contract will have ended he will have made $30+ million off of coaching already. His family is set. His family's family is set. If Campbell becomes our Fry/Ferentz where he stays 20+ years...in this age of college football... he'll have made closer to $100M than not. Or go chase a single big contract, hire several new staffers, get fired in 3 years, start over as an OC/position coach? Yeesh, no thanks.

I've heard that Campbell's wife is fairly involved with her kids school. That is usually a good sign of wanting to stick around for a while.

Again except for the money, why does he want the job? Who wants to get their head kicked in by OSU PSU and UM every week?

Klieman and K-State are the absolute perfect fit for each other.......expectations, fan support, personalities........everything is perfect. Add that he's incredibly good friends with the AD (same guy that hired him at NDSU)..........that is his last stop. He leaves K-State when he retires from coaching, no matter who calls.
