Mess fired! And Pope

I'm being serious. It's not like we are going to be able to go out and immediately secure a Tom Moore or Jason Garret.

I think O'keefe was held back in his play calling by the head coach there. Look at what his offenses did prior to his arrival at Iowa. He may just entertain the idea of calling plays in a wide open offense without heavy interference.

I'm sorry, but its a terrible/laughable suggestion.

Might also depend on whether it is somebody coaching on a team that is going bowling. If that's the case you could see the announcement held off until after their bowl.

Did it work that way when Tom Herman went to Ohio State?

Probably weeks ago. Hopefully he's already got a short list and he's put out feelers.

I would guarantee that. I'm sure that Jamie has been helping out with contacting people and trimming the list. In fact the list may be down to one already.

My two cents for what it is worth. I think Rhoads will hire outside the program if at all possible. Times have changed since 2011 when we were come off the last 5 games against 4 ranked teams with a 3 and 2 record. Rhoads thought we were on the edge of breaking through and didnt want to change so close. Now he is willing to change.

Also Im glad to see pope go as well. We had talent at RB and have yet to produce like we should. Part of that was blamed on Mess and Herman but how can you ignore pope? Also there have been rumors about players not being happy with him.

I hate to see someone loose a job, but this is big time football, with big time salaries. If you are not getting things done, you need to be replaced. I am sure they are both great guys and will find a job elsewhere in coaching.

I really wondered if Klenakis was calling plays in the second half. I saw him talking to GR a couple times on the sidelines. Just seemed odd for a OL coach to be talking to a QB.

No it's not. Alot of time the coaches on the sidelines relay information from the box because it is easier to explain in real life than over the headset.

He is a good guy that had a tough job with our quarterback issues. It was time for a change though.

Ours QBs are good kids and solid players put in a tough place with our Mess situation. How anybody sees it any different is baffling to me.

That's been happening all year.

Good luck to both coaches. They represented Iowa State with dignity. I never enjoy seeing someone loses his/her job but unfortunately, things didn't work with our team.

Sorry to see coaches removed, but at least it was decisive and quick and not drug out for days. I hope these guys have good luck getting other positions. I think both are good guys, but things just didn't go as planned this year.

This is well stated. My thoughts exactly. Bottom line is you can be the best OC, doctor or mechanic, if you don't have the right tools your in trouble.

IMO, Mess had some decent tools. He just didn't have a freaking clue as to how they should be used. If Mess were a doctor he would be treating you for the wrong illness. If Mess were a mechanic he would be replacing the wrong parts and not fixing the problem.

In the case of our former Offensive Coordinator, his name was a perfect name for his Offense. MESS
