Meet Herman

I couldn't be more pleased to hear that he will fit the offense to the players. I've thought for too long that we have tried to create an specific offense without having all the right players for it. This guy sounds like he will not only design a game plan based on our strengths but is also smart enough to know when to change it during the game when the opportunity exists. I think it is great news.

I always thought you were not really a coach if you only had one style of play and could not adapt your style to the talent you have. Now there are many coaches that have been successful using the one style because they could get the talent - at ISU getting the talent is part of the problem so what we need are real coaches to maximize the talent we can get - I think we may actually have those coaches - I'm pumped.:yes:

We will run the ball. I honestly think we have two or maybe three great backs with different skill sets. ARob and Williams will split with Shwartz coming in once in awhile. I expect to see a spread offense that is balanced for the most part. Of course, it will matter what the defense does but I believe we will make the opposing team stop the run before going to the air. Herman seems like the type of guy to do what is neccesary rather than doing what he wouls like to do.

I remember when we hired Herman, there were some Rice fans on the board. They said that the main reason that Herman didn't run more at Rice, was because he didn't have enought talent at RB. This goes right along with tailoring the offense to the talent available and also bodes well for our talented running backs who will most likely play a larger role than the Rice RB's did. I think spreading out the defense and running when they don't expect it will be much more effective than lining up in the I formation and running it up the gut just for the sake of running it.

Hey all, haven't been around much but catching up on the reading of my new team.

Loved the interview, love seeing all the excitement on here with again, what I promise will be a great hire for this team.

Coach Herm is the furthest from a round peg into a square hole guy, he is a very intelligent football coach that adapts to his talent...
