He gives a good interview. He is what, 15 years younger than Rhoads? I wonder if he will get the 'head coach in waiting' tag?
I couldn't be more pleased to hear that he will fit the offense to the players. I've thought for too long that we have tried to create an specific offense without having all the right players for it. This guy sounds like he will not only design a game plan based on our strengths but is also smart enough to know when to change it during the game when the opportunity exists. I think it is great news.
I'm also getting my hopes up that the defensive coordinator will be of the same mode.

i would love nothing more than to be a NCAA coach. i wouldnt even care if i only coached the friggin holders or somehting. it just sucks that its all about who you know.

I think all DI coaches get their start as a football player or a grad assistant.
well, yeah. i feel like i know enough about football to be a grad assistant and learn more about becoming a coach, but those spots go to people who played college ball and usually know one of the coaches at the very least. since i decided to go to iowa state and get a better education than any one of the smaller schools i could have played at, i have no chance.
He's fun to listen to. Out of everything going on at ISU, I think I am most excited about coach Herman and what he can do for our offense.
I think he's going to be an excellent coach at ISU. I hope someone is pegged to be his understudy because he seems like he will move up the ladder rather quickly. I still would like an OC that offered a power game right now, but if we're going to spread it out like everyone else, Herm seems like as good of a guy to teach/coach it as anyone else.

I may be missing the point, but PR and TH didn't know each other other than through reputation.
It maybe more about willing to start your coaching career at Texas Lutheran for $5000 / year and working your way up vs. who you know.
That's why Chizik had the deal with Bolte and McFarland, they survived together with no money. I'm not saying that was the right decision by Chizik.
Something I caught in the interview was that he said when he was the OC for Texas State, his team averaged over 200 ypg rushing...I think that would be encouraging to ARob, Bo, and the rest of the running backs...That Bobcat team was the same team that lost in OT to UNI in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs that year...they also had a very good quarterback (Barrick Nealy??) that year and still ran a lot. Sounds like if you can contribute, TH will make the most of it.
