Looking into the future a bit here, I realize that next season could really be special with the addition of Rashad Vaughn possibly, but you can't help but be excited about 2 years from now as well.

If we do get Vaughn, but he's a one and done guy, then 2 years from now our roster looks like this....

Forwards- Niang, Mckay, Nader
Guards- Naz Long, Monte Morris, Matt Thomas, SDW, Clayton Custer

Plus... 5 other scholarship openings yet to fill. If Fred fills those 5 openings with the kind of talent he's been able to get lately, that would be a scary good team.

I know I'm getting WAY ahead of myself here, because this season and next season could also be very special, but it's nice to see that we're looking pretty solid well into the future right now as well.

The knock on Fred thus far is that he doesn't build for the long term and only brings in transfers and JUCO's, but that is clearly not the case. Pretty exciting.

Niang is going to be lost to the NBA draft at the end of this season, though.

Does it count as a knock if the source is idiots.

No need for this. It's not true and certainly not funny if that was your goal. A FAIL, if you want me to be specific.

Off the charts. (not as wordy as Clonedude but accurate)

I've never heard that knock from a Cyclone Fan or a press member.

not to beat a dead horse, but no way Niang leaves after this year and very slim he leaves early next year. With this years draft class, he'd be lucky if he was even drafted. His ceiling is a 4 year guy along the lines of Draymond Green where he gets drafted late in the 1st round early in the 2nd after his senior year.

How can you build for the future in college basketball? Every player has 4 or 5 years, and the transfer culture in this age just adds to that fact. You can build for the future in the NBA, but not in CBB.

Too bad you tainted your whole post with that last sentence, but I'm not surprised you went that route.

So it appears I forgot this: :jimlad: Sorry. That's my favorite part about Niang, our best player will 100% be playing all 4 years in Ames.

I wouldn't rule out Niang's potential at playing at the next level but Georges leaving for the NBA after this season is ridiculous!! Not going to happen..

Fred is building for the future as well as he possibly could with 4 year players like Naz, Thomas, Niang and Morris with transfers and juco's sprinkled in. Throw in a 1/2 & done type player every 3 years or so and you're talking about an amazing run.
