To further my earlier though, Matt is not necessarily the guy you want guarding small, quick guards through a lot of screens. He is pretty capable against guys a little bigger and a step slower. I think that defensive match up limited his minutes.

Regarding the last play, did Baylor have guys all over Naz? All happened too fast in those last 4.7 to see where every one was at. Who where the last five on the floor besides Georges, Naz, and MM?
I will say this... I've been fairly pro-Matt Thomas, but it's getting to a critical point where he needs to shoot more consistently. He's a shooter first and foremost. If he doesn't bring that, I see his minutes being reduced as you would rather have Hogue or McKay in there for defense and rebounding.
The second half. I think that missed 3 that he was wide open finally pushed Fred over the edge. He has just missed so many wide open 3's. That one was when we had major momentum and it just killed us.
I agree, I like him and think he's good, but he just has 1 out of 10 too many threes rim out on a consistent basis (1.5 years). It's not like his clanging bricks, just a ton of near misses on fairly high degree of difficulty threes. baffling really. I also like his mid range pull up game, but it seems like the same issue there.
Full disclosure: I think Oglesby for Iowa is one of the worth D1 players in a power conference, and I love seeing him get minutes for them.
Don't forget Matt has also MADE some big 3s this year? Settle down now.
Matt was slower to react on defense than the other cyclone defenders. He just was. He needs to improve on chasing people like Naz did and Monte did. His best skill right now is rebounding.
Yep. His pull up shots look better than his threes at this point. He should take more midrange shots to put pressure on the defense.
Matt is a good dribbler. Him and Nader saved us in the WVU game when Morris had to sit because of foul trouble. Sure, he isn't where he should be with shooting, but he saved us against WVU and hit a huge three to ruin any chance of Iowa coming back in the second half.If he's not making shots, he has no business in the game.
He plays in a system that is designed to not take those kind of shots. He was only about a 35% 3 point shooter in high school, who scored most of his points on mid range pull ups, he just doesn't seem to be the kind of spot shooter people hyped him up to be.
No!!!! This is not Hoiball. Fred said at shoot around before the Okie State game Matt went 29/30 on a 3 pt. shooting drill. He has plenty of natural 3 point ability.....
Also, one of Fred's mentors is Kevin Mchale who is the Head Coach of the rockets and since you still believe in the mid range shot you probably hate the NBA but it happens to be where the best basketball offense is in the world.
Read this on 3 point shots and asissts...if you don't have the time to read it just look at the images

I thought it was Morris, Thomas, BDJ, Niang and McKay with No Naz; which I thought was odd at the time.
He is shooting 33% from three this season. He shot 34% from three last season. His percentages for the rest of the field are only a few percentage points higher.
The concern is that he may not be the sharp shooter he has been sold as...are we going to be saying "he just needs to find his confidence" his senior year?
