Matt Thomas did not play

I will say this... I've been fairly pro-Matt Thomas, but it's getting to a critical point where he needs to shoot more consistently. He's a shooter first and foremost. If he doesn't bring that, I see his minutes being reduced as you would rather have Hogue or McKay in there for defense and rebounding.

Regarding the last play, did Baylor have guys all over Naz? All happened too fast in those last 4.7 to see where every one was at. Who where the last five on the floor besides Georges, Naz, and MM?

I thought it was Morris, Thomas, BDJ, Niang and McKay with No Naz; which I thought was odd at the time.

I agree, I like him and think he's good, but he just has 1 out of 10 too many threes rim out on a consistent basis (1.5 years). It's not like his clanging bricks, just a ton of near misses on fairly high degree of difficulty threes. baffling really. I also like his mid range pull up game, but it seems like the same issue there.

Full disclosure: I think Oglesby for Iowa is one of the worth D1 players in a power conference, and I love seeing him get minutes for them.

The second half. I think that missed 3 that he was wide open finally pushed Fred over the edge. He has just missed so many wide open 3's. That one was when we had major momentum and it just killed us.

So what? Nadar didn't play the second half in a recent game and then was our best player against WV. It's all based on Fred's feeling for the current game.

Yep. His pull up shots look better than his threes at this point. He should take more midrange shots to put pressure on the defense.

Don't forget Matt has also MADE some big 3s this year? Settle down now.

Why the ? at the end. Are you not sure if these "made threes" occurred during practice or a game. Don't forget Matt has also MISSED some big 3s this year.

Matt was slower to react on defense than the other cyclone defenders. He just was. He needs to improve on chasing people like Naz did and Monte did. His best skill right now is rebounding.

He's not slower than Georges, who was caught several times on camera just standing still.

I don't see the point going after people like these threads do. We lost a tough game to a good team last night. There's no reason to find people to point fingers at. Everyone could have made one play more, but you have games where the other team makes that play. Not a problem, and the season marches on.

He plays in a system that is designed to not take those kind of shots. He was only about a 35% 3 point shooter in high school, who scored most of his points on mid range pull ups, he just doesn't seem to be the kind of spot shooter people hyped him up to be.

If he's not making shots, he has no business in the game.
Matt is a good dribbler. Him and Nader saved us in the WVU game when Morris had to sit because of foul trouble. Sure, he isn't where he should be with shooting, but he saved us against WVU and hit a huge three to ruin any chance of Iowa coming back in the second half.

Matt isn't the pure shooter people label him, he's more of a Shane Power type of guy. He has a great looking shot and he def can shoot but this year has proven he's a better all around player than some thought but he's not a pure shooter. He's a true '3' in a SG's body.

No!!!! This is not Hoiball. Fred said at shoot around before the Okie State game Matt went 29/30 on a 3 pt. shooting drill. He has plenty of natural 3 point ability.....

Also, one of Fred's mentors is Kevin Mchale who is the Head Coach of the rockets and since you still believe in the mid range shot you probably hate the NBA but it happens to be where the best basketball offense is in the world.

Read this on 3 point shots and asissts...if you don't have the time to read it just look at the images

Hey you know who else I hear shoots the ball great in practice? Josh Oglesby! And Houston's offensive style is driven by Daryl Morey and their front office, not McHale. McHale's T'Wolves teams were below average in both 3 point attempts and FT attempts.

Here is a quote from the article....might as well cross out the Rockets and put CYCLONES

By now, everyone knows that the Rockets’ offensive philosophy is built around 3s and paint shots; they avoid the midrange the same way Gwyneth Paltrow avoids Quiznos. As this chart shows, they invest heavily around the hoop and behind the 3-point line.

No kidding. CFH ranks mid-range jumpers right down there with Justin Bieber and that scum on the top of pudding

Thanks, I knew MM and Georges touched the ball in the last 4.7, but Naz was not on the floor??? He was our hottest shooter in the second half.

He is shooting 33% from three this season. He shot 34% from three last season. His percentages for the rest of the field are only a few percentage points higher.

The concern is that he may not be the sharp shooter he has been sold as...are we going to be saying "he just needs to find his confidence" his senior year?

I never got why people thought he was going to step in and be a sharpshooter. He shot a respectable but not great 3 PT percentage against mediocre competition as a sr in HS. As for the lighting it up in practice comments, Oglesby, Staiger, Alex Thompson... Expectations for MT have not been realistic from the start. I still think he's going to have big games and hit big shots for us in the next 2.5 years. The guy needs to compete with Naz for gym rat title and he will be fine

Whipping boy flow chart:
1. Did BDJ have a good game? If No proceed to A. If yes proceed to 2.
2. Did Thomas have a good game? If No proceed to B. If yes proceed to 3.
3. Did Edozie get lots of minutes? If No proceed to C. If yes proceed to D.

A. BDJ is your whipping boy
B. Thomas is your whipping boy
C. Whar EDOZIE???!!!
D. The team has no heart/refs suck
