Marvin Clark

Too lazy to look up the link, but I read from a recruiting expert that Iowa State is no longer in the picture.

People had been hinting this. I realize since he's not coming here it shouldn't matter, but still am curious as to who backed off of who?

I tend to believe that ISU is waiting to see how the transfer market treats them before taking a commitment from Clark or Cunningham, and consequently we were crossed off of their lists.

I am just surprised Fred has had such a hard time landing HS kids in the 2014 class. Got Custer (big get) but that was extremely early. Custer committed in 2012. I think he's just backed off on a lot of the HS kids he was going after. I love seeing what is out there on transfers but at the same time I am still hoping some more HS names pop up. Thinking those odds are very slim bu you never know with coaching changes.

Its more Vaughn ****ed us than anything else. Someone posted that he had silently committed after the Michigan game, whether that's true or not I don't know, but that would be a good reason why we backed off on a lot of recruits. Remember we only had 1 scholarship at the time.

If I had to guess, the staff thought we had Vaughn so they moved on to the 2015 class, leaving the scholarship that was eventually freed up by Bluford for an impact transfer.

At least that's how I've kind of fit the pieces together

I think it is extremely safe to say at one point the staff was close to positive that Vaughn was coming here, or Matt A wouldn't have reacted the way he did. That was the reaction to someone who went back on a promise/commitment, not just picking another school.

I truly don't get people being frustrated with no high school recruits under the circumstances. (Ignoring the top 100 4 star he signed a long time ago) It's not like we have 5 open scholarships. At this point in time during the year you are looking at picking up a guy who will not be ready to contribute for a couple years. Better to keep options open.

There is absolutely no question the talent FH can get on the transfer market will be better than the talent you can get from HS right now.

Since Custer FH has nabbed: McKay, Abdel Nader, DeAndre Kane (Also Edozie and Bluford)

I agree with you. One last **** you to that kid, and I'm never mentioning him again

He's still a young coach who won't make this mistake again. He thought he had Vaughn locked down and backed off of everyone. Maybe not completely, but a lot more than we should have.

Yep. The Bill Self/Roy Williams/Tom Izzo's of the world don't play hardball without a good reason. They know these kids will milk it if they can, and so they force the issue. A little harder to do in the first few years for ISU, but now I think you absolutely start pressing a bit more and if a recruit isn't ready to fully commit (no silent verbal jackwadd-ery) then you keep pressing the others. Sorry, but the street runs both ways.

Still think we'll see Vaughn here as a transfer...FWIW.

A kid who's projected to be a one-and-done freshman is going to transfer and end up staying in school 3 years before he goes pro?

Signing day isn't until April. If we go deep into the tourney, who knows if RV switches his commitment?

I'd mostly agree with you, but it definitely isn't impossible. While Royce White wasn't necessarily projected to be as one-and-done at Minnesota as RV, he also was very highly rated and ended up doing 3 years including a transfer. Granted, there were special circumstances why in his case, but plans don't always go as planned for many of these players.

No. Vaughn isn't transferring here. He would go to the NBA before sitting out a year.

I've wondered about this. Do you think FH and MA have kept in contact with him (within the rules of course)? Maybe they make one more big push right at the end. Other than the weather, I don't get UNLV -- at all.

No. I'd say MA severed that relationship and I'm glad he did
