Can't wait for Civil War. With that said, anyone stoked to watch Daredevil Season 2 which gets released this Friday like I am? Can't believe it is coming so quickly. Part of me thinks this is Marvel's way to try and steal some thunder from Batman vs Superman, which gets released just a week later. In the meantime though, I've been working my way through Agent Carter Season 2. I'm done with 8 of the 10 episodes so far. Anyone else see it yet? Did you like it? I'm reserving my full judgement until I'm finished.

Agent Carter was good this year. I hope they keep running with it. I love that time period, its a nice break from other shows. Throwback to a classier time. (in my opinion of course)

I saw that trailer get released, clicked on it and watched only 10 seconds before turning it off. Don't get me wrong, I'm super stoked for Daredevil, think this trailer looks sweet (from what I've seen), and have loved all the trailers so far, but at this point, I think I've seen enough. Sometimes in my anticipation, I think I just watch too many trailers to the point where the film/show eventually gets spoiled because I see too much, and I don't want that to happen for Daredevil. Therefore, I'm opting to pass and just wait until Friday for it to come out. All said and done, that isn't too long to wait at all.

Okay, I've officially finished Agent Carter Season 2 and will now post my review like I've promised above. Overall, I thought Season 2 had some fun moments, but overall was just kind of OK. I actually liked the first season much better. Let’s start with the good things first. I continue to like how this show gives us something different than all the other shows and movies do as it truly is a good time-period piece (late 1940s post-war America). I also really enjoy some of the main staple characters such as Peggy Carter, Jarvis, and Howard Stark, even if some of their performances were a bit over-the-top and corny this season. Particularly, Jarvis was a lot of fun this season.

Moving on to what I didn’t like, there is quite a few things. First of all, the whole zero matter thing was just so-so and seemed drawn-out and overblown in my mind. For one, it was hard to fully understand the stakes of it, and for what we did, they just seemed somewhat small and contained. Truthfully, the entire season kept reminding me of one long drawn-out episode of Agents of Shield Season 1. If you watch AOS, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I was also super-disappointed in the direction they went as well as the lack of crossovers. For instance, the first season introduced the whole Leviathan organization to us (Russia’s Hydra equivalent essentially), the early-stages Black Widow program, and even at the end, hinted at the start of the Winter Soldier program and everything that led up to that movie. Then, throw in the great crossovers of the Howling Commandos, a little Captain America flashbacks, Howard Stark, and even Arnim Zola at the end. Now, looking at Season 2, we essentially didn’t get ANY of this fun stuff. Other than Howard Stark, there was pretty much zero crossovers. Building off season 1, I figured Season 2 could do some awesome things like continue with the Zola ending and jump into the early stages of the Winter Soldier program or even do some lead-up to the upcoming Dr. Strange movie. They also could have gone the early Ant-Man route and jump into the early Hank Pym Ant-Man stuff. Shoot, they could have even gone more into the development and ramifications of the Black Widow program. So many gaps to be filled in the MCU history and this season didn’t really cover ANY of them and instead opted to go with a stand-alone forgettable story that slightly crosses over with one future episode of Agents of Shield. I guess we did get the new Council of 9 introduced to us, but we still don't know what they have to do with anything else in the MCU yet. For all we know, they could be a stand-alone Agent Carter thing.

With all the options, you can see why I was a bit underwhelmed by Season 2. However, that doesn’t mean that I want the show cancelled, because I don’t. If they do a season 3, I just hope that they learn from their mistakes on Season 1 and do a better job of filling in some of the historical gaps everyone wants to see and PLEASE ADD MORE CROSSOVERS. Crossovers is what is so great about the MCU, even the small ones, and we continue to see less and less of them. Also, most Marvel shows are ones that get better and better as the season goes on, whereas I thought this one got worse and worse. However, if they do decide to not do a Season 3, I do hope they try some other type of series that does explore some of that rich history, whatever that may be. In conclusion, Season 2 = great characters squandered by a lackluster story line. Sorry for the length of this.

Oh yeah, I never did throw in my new post-Jessica Jones rankings update. If anyone cares, here you go. Feel free to critique.

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier – Thought this movie had the best drama and best action scenes of all the movies
  2. Marvel’s The Avengers – Iconic way to pull everything together with the best villain in the MCU
  3. Iron Man – Epic way to start the Universe with an unbelievable star for a headliner. Never got into the Iron Monger villain though.
  4. Guardians of the Galaxy – Best space epic since the original Star Wars movies. Also was probably the funniest movie of the MCU so far.
  5. Marvel’s Daredevil: Season 1 – Loved the street-level more-adult-themed tone of this show. Also contains probably the second best villain in the MCU. Being on Netflix is a great way to un-cuff all the normal problems of making a TV show for network viewing.
  6. Ant-Man - Had super-low expectations, but walked away pleasantly surprised. Yet another weak villain, but contained some great comedy with some great actors. Paul Rudd won me over when I once was really skeptical of him.
  7. Captain America: The First Avenger – Epic first-half of the movie with Cap’s origin story, but believe it or not, I found Red Skull a little underdeveloped. Loved the WWII time period aspect of this one.
  8. Marvel's Jessica Jones - Series filled with great actors, great drama, good diversity to what we are used to, and one of the best villains in the MCU (Kilgrave). Series suffered most from having probably 3-4 too many episodes, poor pacing, and not enough ties to the overall MCU.
  9. Iron Man 2 – Many will mock me, but I actually really enjoyed this movie and actually enjoyed it more than Iron Man 3. Make fun of me all you want, but I didn’t think Whiplash was that bad. I think this movie gets unfairly criticized.
  10. Avengers: Age of Ultron – Fun movie, but suffered from too much CGI action, too many characters, and too many storylines.
  11. Thor: The Dark World – Criticize me if you will, but I actually liked this movie and thought it got an unfair bad wrap. I didn’t find Malekith that bad and I actually liked this movie more than the original Thor.
  12. Iron Man 3 – Don’t know what it is, but I just never really got into this one, and it probably had something to do with the big Mandarin villain twist towards the end. Also never really liked Killian either. Again, I surprisingly like Iron Man 2 better
  13. Marvel’s Agents of Shield: Season 2 – Liked the less cheese and more serious tone than the first season. Also, loved the Inhuman’s storyline. Used to hate Skye, but now don’t mind her.
  14. Marvel’s Agent Carter – Loved the period timepiece aspect of this. Great show.
  15. Thor – Don’t know what it is, but I just never got into this storyline or villains as much as the others. Again, I surprisingly liked Thor: Dark World more.
  16. The Incredible Hulk – Good movie, but not great. Never was into Norton for the role, so was glad when the switch was made.
  17. Marvel’s Agents of Shield: Season 1 – Struggled hardcore in the first half-dozen episodes, but then finally picked up when Winter Soldier storyline set in and the cheese started to fade. Overall, ended up really enjoying this.

After just posting my Agent Carter: Season 2 review, I figured it would be worth updating my MCU rankings to include it. You'll see the only thing I'm missing is AOS Season 3, which isn't included because the season isn't finished and I have yet to see any of it. Plan on starting into it fairly soon. Daredevil Season 2, which gets released this Friday will also soon be added to the list.

Spiderman got himself a new suit with some active tech.

By the way, what is everyone's thoughts of Spiderman's new suit? At first, I didn't like it at all as it looked way too CGI cartoony, but since then, it is growing on me some. I'll reserve further judgement until I actually see it in the movie. According to James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy), who is someone I greatly respect his opinion, he says Tom Holland is the best Spiderman yet:

It took me off guard at first too. But I dig it. Trailers can sometimes be rough cuts. I like the stark tech in it. Should open up the possibilities.

Good article. Thanks for posting. Yeah, I thought I heard that, but I couldn't remember where. For the MCU's sake, I hope that it ties somewhat into Dr. Strange, at least to make the show more relevant. Zero matter/Darkforce is definitely the very first introduction of different dimensions into the MCU, so I do like how the show is the very first to introduce something.

If the MCU has done anything well, they've done a good job of gradually feeding new types of things into their movies/shows slow enough to the point where the audience is ready to accept these new things without considering them just outlandish. Some examples would be superpowers, power stones, other worlds, space travel, quantum realm...etc. Dr. Strange is supposed to be one movie that adds a lot particularly magic and other dimensions. Then, once they are accepted, they then can just become a normal occurrence. While all these things have pretty much always existed in the comics, I'm not sure they would have been accepted very easily if they all would have been shoved into the first MCU movie.

I like how AoS has introduced Hive. Good smaller character to have as a nemesis and keep the actor for Ward around.

Haha, don't know much about that.... yet. However, I do find it interesting that they are introducing Hive into AOS around about the same time that the Arrowverse has introduced the organization called H.I.V.E. No relation of course, but you know.

I've posted this on the DC Extended Universe, but I figure it is worth posting on here as well beings how it includes both DC and Marvel. With that said, after finishing Agent Carter: Season 2, I've updated my rankings on all the modern-day comic book movie shows.

  1. Daredevil (Seasons 1)
  2. The Flash (Season 1)
  3. Arrow (Season 2)
  4. Arrow (Season 1)
  5. Jessica Jones (Season 1)
  6. Agents of Shield (Season 2)
  7. Agent Carter (Season 1)
  8. Agents of Shield (Season 1)
  9. Arrow (Season 3)
  10. Agent Carter (Season 2)
  11. Constantine (Season 1)

Again, I realize I'm missing a lot of ongoing series right now on here (AOS season 3, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Flash Season 2, Arrow Season 4), particularly on the DC side, but I still refuse to watch TV shows week-to-week. I'll eventually get to them. I also just stick to watching shows that are a part of some shared universe for now. This makes me exclude such other comic book movie shows like Gotham, IZombie, or Lucifer.

Daredevil Season 2 is officially out today. I know it is early, but has anyone happen to catch an episode or two yet? If so, thoughts?

Good to hear. Yeah, I had learned from an early review that the Punisher is in it from episode 1, so I guess there is no waiting. I'd love to hear back after you learn some more. Based on my schedule, it might be a while before I actually get to crack into the season.
