Marsden - Worthless?

mjones34 is right on the money...as the guards are learning the system and expectations of Coach McDermott, the bigs will begin to get the ball in places and situations that are best suited to them. It is tough for back to the basket guys like Marsden to be effective if the guards are still learning.

Every Team Needs Solid Role Players

I'd like to see Marsden redshirt next year. Its a bit different to redshirt a kid that late in his career, but the team really needed him to play minutes last & this year.

However, next year we should have Brackins, Thompson & Hubalek. I could also see the Johnson's getting bigger & stronger and able to fill in 10-15mpg in the post.

Marsden appears to be a late bloomer and sitting a year may benefit him significantly. From what I've seen he seems to have a nice jumper from 10-12ft and works hard to set screens & play post defense. His biggest liability is tenacity and quickness.

That said if over the next 8-10 mos. he doesn't show the potential to be a 15-20mpg game player, then don't redshirt him & let him get through in 4 years.

I don't have much to add that other people haven't said, so this will sound repetitious, but from what I understand Ross is a hard worker and a smart player. He won't be a star, but he can definitely play a contributing role on this team. I'm glad to have him, whether he starts or not.
