Marketing Positions

Be very careful about not getting caught up in a Ponzi scheme.

Any marketing job that has "Entry-Level creative sports marketing" in the job title, dont apply. I went as far as interviewing in Denver for what I though was a dream job. Walk into office, where 6 or 7 other young men like myself, are filling out a questionnaire. Knew something was fishy from there on. Each one walks into the "president's" office and walks out shaking their head. There is a website I later found that, people complain about certain companies like this and the kids tell their interview stories.

I went through a recruiter, they do the dirty work for you, and got lucky with my job. My fiance, however, is graduated last december with a marketing degree and had to take the first available job out of school -- Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Loan Specialist. Hates it, but it pays her bills.

So from a fellow marketer, its next to impossible find a great marketing job. But if you were leaning towards sales, there are a lot of choices.

You went back for a 2nd interview for a job that was handing out coupon books?

.....

I was fresh out of college, naive, and desperate for a job - and it wasn't presented as "coupon books" but as "advertising". So yes I went back for the second interview - and at least I had enough common sense not to take the job when I realized what it really was they were asking me to do.

So yeah, go ahead and mock - but at least I can use my experience as a warning for others...

bad advice, grad school is NOT an alternative to entering job market. grad school is a way to go further into debt, delay your career, and perhaps make you unattractive to prospective employers (all school, no experience). my advice to you would be to get a job (any job close to your chosen field will do) and do your best at it. if promotion and opportunity don't come your way in five years, look for new job or consider grad school.

That all depends on what profession you're going into. It's a great choice for an educator or for someone with designs on getting into management. But if someone want to focus on sales, then yeah, they are probably best off just jumping right in.
Also, I think what you meant to say was that grad school is not a legitimate alternative to entering the job market. At any rate, I disagree. Some studies show that during the recession a worker with a BA was far more likely to be laid off than a worker with a grad degree. No question grad school creates debt, but not all debt is bad debt.

Yep. One I nearly got sucked into right out of college was called Vector Marketing. And my brother nearly got roped into one called Primerica when he was finishing up his A.A. Those are just two to watch out for in your search. Good luck to you!

Starting salary for a NYC sanitation worker is around $83,000 plus benefits. With overtime, you can pull down over $100,000. Even with the cost of living ratio change, still not too shabby. You will be picking up after peoples sh1t regardless of what your job is, might as well get paid for it.
