Marcus Paige= Super 60

Marcus made the cut for ESPN's super 60 in the class of 2012. Coach FH needs to attack this one HARD.

Sources say that sources close to him say that Marcus was told by sources that we are VERY interested in him.

Does anyone "in the know" have any idea where we sit with Paige?

Most of these kids keep their decisions pretty much to themselves. All of the Bohannon's, Gibbs (my brother is one of his best friends and didnt know till it was made official), Printy, Hutch, they were all pretty candid about their decisions.

KU will probably try and give his dad a job.

Roy Williams and UNC are looking very hard at Marcus. I think he may end up at UNC if they offer. Hope not but I know Roy has had several conversations with AAU coahces etc about Marcus Development...

i think it's hard to say what a kid will do over the next 2 years. TJ has shown how creative and how impressive of a recruiter he can be over the past few years. I don't think we're out of the race yet because of both TJ and Fred. I'm not being blinded by a magical unicorn Fred, but I think people in the state are already getting aboard the bandwagon and are impressed that a local boy came back to resurrect the program. It's quite possible that we surprise people in Fred's first two year (not a Big XII title, but over .500 and improving), combine that with a style of play (on paper) which is highly attractive to recruits and I think ISU is a player for many of the in-state talents. I do think we're at a disadvantage if and when the big boys come offering, but I gotta believe that not every local kid drops everything to wear blue or chant rock chalk.

I'm very optimistic about Fred's chances with recruits moving forward. He's gotten some decent transfers to come play for a dead-in-the-water program and his humble and straight-forward approach is going to resonate with kids.

This would be a great start, we've had too many in state kids bolting lately. It would be nice if Freddie can set the tone by picking up this kid.

Agreed. If Royce White is somehow eligible this season, then we just might look at postseason play this year.

Even if White doesn't play (and I don't think he does), any team can compete by playing tough tough D. Both Floyd and Eustachy played lock-down D which kept is in so many games, especially in down years. I know it isn't as sexy as Johnny Orr run and gun, but I love to win and I love teams that can defend. I think a less-rigid offense (think anti-gmac), tough D and preparation can make us competitive with or without Royce.

BTW, if you've got a little time to burn, watch TEAMS TO REMEMBER on youtube and watch the one about UNLV 89-91. Just about everyone hated them, but they were one of the most prepared teams mentally and especially physically. One of the keys to their success was practicing harder than they ever played - those guys still to this day talk about how hard the practices were and how hard they worked in preparation of each game. Now, I'm sure that every team practices hard... but there is something to be gleaned from that team's work ethic.
