Nothing will change unless we have an average to good OL. We need an OL coach who can develop the young players as they come into the system. I can't remember the last time we had a good OL.

Honest question - how is Manning going to learn? Perhaps some reflection and reviewing your own tendencies helps, but it seems as though those that really grow in the position are being mentored by an experienced head coach. I love CMC, but I'm not sure he can help much there. I really hope I'm wrong.
Do you think coaches don’t talk and work with other coaches? Our staff went to Clemson to learn from their coaches a few years back, and their defensive coaches came to Ames to learn from Heacock.
I do recall Clemson coming to learn more about the defense...didn't hear that we had visited them, but makes sense we would have gone there.

I hesitate to mix it up in this thread, but this is a point I would love to hear the football minds (Jay, Jeff) break down.CMC on a program wide level needs to emphasize stronger details in general.
It will be interesting to see what next September looks like.
Pick the date that Manning gets the offical notice.
It should be about 3 quarters ago.

There seems to be a noticeable discrepancy between what Campbell is preaching and what the team is executing when it comes to "details" and "margins." Why is that? It's clearly important to this staff, but the message and methods don't seem to be resonating with the players.
Another factor in the details is we actually haven’t been horrendous as a whole this year but they all have been at crucial points. Addressing this though is the most important think I think.I hesitate to mix it up in this thread, but this is a point I would love to hear the football minds (Jay, Jeff) break down.

He’s not getting fired. You want manning gone, you’ll have to fire Campbell.
That’s fine but you should at least admit that’s what you want.
Fun game: go back and count how many quarters we scored no points at all.Ridiculous. He only led the most prolific Iowa State offense in history this year. Some of you people need to step back from the ledge.

Thats not how it works. That being said I doubt Manning goes anywhere.
On Iowa’s playcalling: Nate Stanley has a pretty good arm. He has murdering USC. And he steps into his throws. I cannot count how many times Purdy threw while he was still back peddling. Dude, you’re not Patrick Mahomes. Step into it!They did last night like crazy.
Iowa threw deep WAY more than us all season. I guess they just have the QB and WRs to do it, but we don't?
Nobody has yet to explain why we don't have a RB screen play.... or a simple dump off outlet for Purdy to throw to when he's in trouble. This is basic simple stuff that Manning just can't seem to design.

On Manning designing plays: football is a copycat sport. You don’t have to design plays yourself. Copy a good offense and playbook from the thousands of hours of game film out there. Clemson runs our 3-3-5 defense. Did they design it? Nope. They literally came to Ames and copied it.
Unfortunately, it seems like every time we do get a penalty it is in a crucial moment either in the red zone or turning a short yardage situation into a long yardage one.I’m not totally disagreeing, but there are some parts of details and margins where we’ve drastically improved as well, like being one of the least penalized teams in the country, and being one of the teams with the fewest amount of three and outs.
Not everything can be fixed over night, but I do think we’re making good progress to where he wants to be.
