Manning fired yet?

I haven't had the gusto to check our stats for this game, but did our All-America Tight End have more than three passes attempted his way today??

They did last night like crazy.

Iowa threw deep WAY more than us all season. I guess they just have the QB and WRs to do it, but we don't?

Nobody has yet to explain why we don't have a RB screen play.... or a simple dump off outlet for Purdy to throw to when he's in trouble. This is basic simple stuff that Manning just can't seem to design.

1st bold: well, I guess so. Although USC's secondary and defense were terrible, and Iowa only had 213 yards passing according to the ESPN. ND was on point today....way different look.

2nd: do you think ISU's line is good enough to get out for a RB screen? Was there a lot of room for Hall to run today?

Oh and what does ISU's scheme have to do with Iowa?

ND did a nice job on him.

This wasn't OU who just flat out blows assignments regularly.

Agreed!! Just thought more attempts should have gone his way. I trust getting 5 yards with Kolar more than I do our running game...

I'm littering this in other threads but we have 2 all americans, players all over all B12 teams, personal records, program records, league leading in categories, nation leading in other categories... We might be in better shape than some want to admit despite our failings.

Trust me... I want to be optimistic about next year.... but until I see our OL come out next year and look better than the one we had this season... I'll be very doubtful.

When we had JGJ out, we didn't feel good enough about putting Ramos in there in his place... we all know that. Instead we shuffled everyone around and made them play positions they weren't comfortable playing instead. That doesn't give me huge confidence that the coaches believe in Ramos yet.

I think Treiber will be good, but who really knows? I predict we'll start the season really slow as usual, and just blame it on the OL being so young and new. There's always some excuse as to why we can't start fast every year like other teams can.

He was the number one focus for Notre Dame with one of their best defenders on him most of the day.

You can’t force it to someone.

True! Unless I missed it, Kolar had 3 catches, and our other TE's had zero catches, but I could be wrong? For having (arguably) three great TE's on the roster who have excelled all year, we seemed to have forgotten about them today..

Definitely should fire the OC that broke school records over a meaningless bowl game. Smart decision makers would do that.

Beat up OL and QB playing injured is a great recipe for what we saw today. Purdy was just not on for a lot of the game. ISU was so close to having those 3 FGs being TDs, which would have changed the whole complection of the game.

The former GA turned OL coach needs to be removed and replaced by Manning. Campbell needs to go find a creative OC.

Finally someone stepped up and said what I've been wanting to say all year. Good post!

It will never happen, but it's what HAS to happen for us to have a shot at winning more than 6 or 7 games next year.

At some point, Campbell is going to have to make a decision though or risk his own career. Manning isn't going anywhere next year though, overall stats this year were too good. There will come a time that we have to get over the hump though and push into the 10+ win season. It isn't going to happen unless Manning learns a lot in the off season.

Looking at the replays, it's amazing how pedestrian our rout designs are. We were running right into their coverages most of the time. And Manning's calls on 3rd and 4th and short, woof!

32 points per game on offense which in the best in ISU history. The last two games were bad but this was a historic season from a points per game standpoint.

I kind of thought they should have put Mitchell in .

I’m pretty sure Soehner was hurt. I think I saw him going out with no pads in the beginning of the game with Bailey.

Could have been Leo, I suppose. Just saw a tall dude wearing number 89.

They probably should have done it sooner, just to give him the reps. When he did get in there he was a little too hyped up. His first throw was high, but caught, the second one was way high.

ND bracketed TEs and slots running the bread and butter crossing routes. Our guys on the outside didn't win one on one battles very often, and when they did Purdy didn't find him (Jones and Milton a couple times).

The OL struggled but there have been lots of times this year where'Purdy had plenty of time or bought time and our receivers don't get separation. I think our receivers do not run crisp routes.

I complained about Manning today too, but it's important to realize that we lost our two best skill guys early to the NFL and the offense still took a step forward. Keep in mind Manning is only a few years removed from being a MAC position coach and is a young guy. He's still learning.

Yeah, he’s only going to get better. Having an upperclassman and healthy Purdy will help, as well as a sure thing star in Breece to start the season.

Special teams on the other hand, ANYTHING has to be better than what we got out of them this year.

Honest question - how is Manning going to learn? Perhaps some reflection and reviewing your own tendencies helps, but it seems as though those that really grow in the position are being mentored by an experienced head coach. I love CMC, but I'm not sure he can help much there. I really hope I'm wrong.
