Mac's reaction

What the hell are you talking about... I never said he was incompetent. He can go anywhere in the country for that Business degree, (not to mention any of the other better 4 institutions) "it just sounded good in caveat to signing a LOI." THAT's what is so funny. ...Like he's seriously going to pursue business and accounting after he graduates... (right)

After he gets done playing basketball - or even while he is still playing - don't you think it might help him do something with his piles of money besides swimming in it? It might... the amount of money you can make as an NBA player actually pales in comparison to the money an successful businessperson can make.

An accounting degree actually might help a lot if he can be his own agent...while very uncommon, there are athletes who do their own negotiations and don't have to pay an agent...

:biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

NBA guys make more money than about 98% of businessman. Now business owners might be a different story....

An accounting degree isn't going to do **** for being your own agent. You're better of with a JD.

If you have any clue on contract law or business law (which are integrated into accounting), it will help you out. I'm not saying by any means he will be able to represent himself completely, but he isn't going to get taken to the cleaners signing a stupid contract.

Does basketball have an equivalent of Scott Boras?

Ok - business owner. He will have tons of money to manage and invest. Tons of athletes **** that away, if he uses it wisely he will be very very wealthy.

Another thing I've never bought into. Picking a good school is important (upfront) for the "just in case" train of thought.

But had this been a few years back, before the NBA implemented the +1 rule, or whatever they call it, where a kid can't go straight to the league from HS - does anyone think that HB is going to Chappel Hill in the fall? I don't. He's heading to the draft.

So this talk about a top business school is something that sounds good, is something to appease mother perhaps, and something he probably did genuinely consider. I highly doubt is was a major factor.

No way was it a huge concern, he's going to UNC for their rich tradition and opportunity in BASKETBALL. As far as his money, he someday will have an agent that will be able to help him do all that. Harrison's one years at school there will consist of ballroom dancing and "communications" classes probably lol

You guys are arguing about HB's education now? Who gives a crap? His money won't help the local economy anyway.

Damn straight. Education was NOT really a factor anyway. A kid who happened to grow up in Ames, Iowa, wants to go to North Carolina. Fine. While I find it interesting that he continued to use the ISU practice facility and pal around with ISU players even AFTER he'd made up his mind (and without letting the coaching staff know he wasn't coming), in the end that is of no lasting significance.

Let's talk about kids who actually WANT to play for ISU and may give a damn about our school. Clearly he does not.

Just because you're going to be an athlete doesn't make you incompetent. See: Greg Paulus. Maybe a college degree isn't just important to him, but to his mother. You're reallllllly assuming a lot.
I truly beleive it doesn't matter where you get your business degree or even if you get one. It's all about the product or idea you put out.

Coach GMac has a lot more sense about him than most people here. I'll bet severely disappointed but ready to move onto the 2009-2010 season.

Completely agree. This team will be special and I think GMac's and Cyclone Nation have something to be excited about.

Anything else would be a shame honestly. Coaches know the score. You'll put a lot of time into a lot of recruits, and you're going to lose most of them most likely. So you focus on the ones you do get, and focus on the games you have to play, and then next off season you do it all over again.

And let's hope all recruits have a presser like HB's. What a production. I wonder how long Ol' Roy (dog food) knew he was going to be on TV making a mockery of ISU.

I agree, but this one is a bit different. From what I've heard, it was hard to make sure he was always following the rules regarding recruiting Barnes with Doug being on the same team. Also, Barnes was kind of treated like one of our own, which normally won't happen with players you are recruiting just b/c of distance. And to have him just say nominal things about Iowa STate and have our players and coaches on skype standby is kind of a kick in the junk. Finally, Mac will have to run in to Harrison all winter long at Ames High games and pretend that everything is cool.

I think Roy has to be a little embarrassed by the production as well. Didn't he look like a little puppy (staring up at the camera) waiting for his good boy treat?
