LOST: Lighthouse

I know what you are saying. There are some things in the timeline that would have nothing to do with them not crashing. The enhanced version seems a bit screwy there.

IMO it has to be one of two things. The island was underwater in the flash-sideways because:

1. It was sunk by the jughead in the seventies or
2. It's "underwater" the same way it went underwater when Ben pushed the donkey-wheel and "moved" the island. I remember the way the water looked when it disappeared, it was the same way it looks when you drop a rock or something into the water.

From what I've picked up on... it seems as if every time Jack looks into a mirror he starts picking up attributes from the Jack on the island. (i.e. when he looked into the mirror in the plane's bathroom, as well as this last episode when he looked into the mirror and commented on his appendix scar)

I saw a theory elsewhere that was sort of interesting.... What if this alternate timeline is what has actually been happening the entire time, or the "real" timeline. And all of the action on the island is simply Jacob's way of molding the souls of the survivors into a better person. Then these new and improved souls are gradually merged back into the real timeline and the result is that they all are better people, etc.

Interesting theory, and I've thought about it myself too... but the on-island timeline, the plane actually did crash, because the Oceanic survivors made it back to the real world and everyone was all excited that someone survived the infamous Oceanic 815 crash.

Something doesn't seem quite right though, I agree. They appear to be hinting that too with Jack's appendix scar. It's interesting to note too that Jack is the only one in the alternative timeline that has ever appeared to have any memory of the original timeline.

Maybe that is because Jack is a candidate.

I think the water was rushing in to replace the space that had been occupied by the island. I don't think the island was ever underwater after Ben moved it.

I thought so also, that is , until I got to thinking about that comic book Walt had in season 1 that had a picture of an underwater city complete with protective dome.

With this show, I'm not so sure either way.

I read an interesting thread on a different LOST forum...

To paraphrase, it states that in a lot of scenes each season different objects switch around or switch sides (ie a watch from the left to the right hand). One possible explanation for this is that we see the scene from a normal point of view, then we see it from Jacob's point of view. Jacob's point of view would be through the mirrors in the lighthouse which is why somethings are flip-flopped.

Kinda interesting... take it FWIW. Just thought I'd pass it along to my fellow CF losties.

Kinda explains why when Sayid shot Ben, it looked like the wound was on the other side the next episode.

Would also be interesting if every single "flashback" that we saw in the first 5 seasons was actually just Jacob watching them.

Not quite sure where they are going with the "alternate timeline" now. It's not a representation of what life would have been like if they hadn't crashed, because Jack never had a son before the crash. So you have to go back about 15 years or so to see where the time lines diverge? What was the catalyst?

I think its what the timeline would've been if Jacob hadn't been watching them and affecting their lives.
