SOUTHWEST IOWA ?
You grow it in your basement? I think you have confused sweet leaf with sweet corn.still a little early here (upper midwest)... some producers start planting in early may and weekly until 4th of july.. im in the sweet corn business.. have probably $30k worth in my basement right now. lots of very good hybrids coming soon
Had my first ear tonight. Got the batch from the same place I always have. Was ok not great. Several ears were mostly duds.
I saw several signs for sweet corn in NE Iowa on my roadtrip to Milwaukee this week.
Western Iowa, I 80 south is southwest iowa and north of U.S. 20 is northwest iowa.More like West Central (North of CB/Omaha).
This patch, and the next one, will be chopped disked and double-cropped for September/October maturity. The first corn and the last corn of the year has little competition and basically sells itself.
Best when dry.Iowa sweet corn cobs are the best for roadside wiping I've ever found and it's not even close.
