Lipsey Shoutout

Lipsey is steady at the point. He is a tenacious defender. His growth during the non conference portion of the season has been on point. Just WOW!
What impressed me most today was that in in the first 10 mins of the first half, we had a TO or two. Once Lipsey hit the bench with foul trouble, we had 8 or 9 more. Then only had 2 in the second half. He really steadies the team.

Few years back had a 60 year Ames High history individual connected with all the sports teams tell me about an athlete coming up. He'd not seen the diverse physical ability in but a few athletes from the old Big 8 conference days to recent (not just Ames High). Said the kid could play D1 and excel at multiple sports. Also with mental toughness well beyond his years. Oh and a great young man. Guess who?

I didnt think he would adjust this quickly but he will be a star at ISU.
I prefer PGs that secure the ball like Monte Morris and Tyrese Halliburton. PGs like Tinsley and Hunter make some exciting plays but they also turn it over too often. It is hard to believe Tinsley averaged 4.2 turnovers per game in 1999-2000 season.

I've been thinking this also. There hasn't been much to go off yet this year but from what I've seen I like him better than I did Hunter. This tournament gave us some insight to what he is capable of. It's unfortunate he has been thrust into the starting PG spot. I think he would have benefited immensely learning behind Williams. Just like Monte with Kane. Either way he is a lot more cautious with the ball than Hunter was. I remember several times last year thinking Hunter was to wild, out of control, and careless with the ball. Lipsey is more what I would want in a PG. May not be the huge scoring threat but if he could grow into a 10 point per game threat he could be a stat stuffer ala NWB.
Hope he keeps driving to the basket he shoots free throws at a high clip!
