Liberty Bowl postgame thread

ASU had a helicopter take pics at a Memphis @ ASU game because we filled up their stadium for the first time (they had never hit 30k before and we were ranked #24)...we won the game and ruined the mood.

just remember it's a dry county so buy your beer before you get to Jonesboogey.

LOL hadn't thought about dry counties in a long time. In Wisconsin townships(you add all the townships up to make the county) could decide if they were dry or wet. I moved into a dry township right on the township line was a bar, had parking for 6 cars in the front but enough in the back for both townships. Full every weekend. The people in that township were proud as could be the were dry, but they were at that bar every friday night. :)

oh and according to the PD folks I talked to there if you keep it in a solo cup no one will say anything to you. Just don't walk around with a beer bottle/can

Edit: I was walking around with a beer bottle and that's what the cop told me lol

ISU should have reminded the conference we were just there and played Memphis in 2017, and would absolutely not play them again on their field for a "bowl" game.

It's ISU's 3rd time there in 11 years.

Memphis, Tennessee.

Outside of Graceland and Bass Pro, not seeing a whole lot of appeal.

This is a fair take in my opinion. Playing the other team on their home field is dumb. Memphis should be sent somewhere else no matter what…
Congress is working on this now.

I mean we got sent to the Hawai'i bowl to play Hawai'i

it happens. If it wasn't the Liberty Bowl I'm told it would have been the Boca Bowl vs Cuse for Memphis so thanks for saving us from that lol

This was my 3rd trip to the Memphis bowl game. Appreciate the relatively inexpensive trip and the great timing between Christmas and New Year's, but I doubt I'll ever be coming back again. Weather has pretty much sucked every time, and the novelty of Beale Street wears off after a couple of visits.

All of our NIL money needs to go to basketball. Seriously. Do we really think we can compete in NIL in football? We had a freaking walk on starting on defense and overall looked very untalented against an AAC school. Let the football players get their NIL money from local business commercials. The real money needs to stay in men's basketball. That is where ISU will be successful.
Giving up already, huh? Want to become the Arkansas of the Big 12 in basketball, and be OK with being the annual football doormat?

No thanks.

A few observations:

If Matt Barnes was still our DC you likely would have scored 50.

Jordan Hankins basically installed a complete new system during the 3 week period.

Every tape your OC had was useless and there was no way to know to prepare for the new scheme.

As for the comments regarding OOC games.

Iowa won their division and was in the B1G title game.

Ohio has the #4 defense in the nation and shut down most of their opponents..

The Tigers have the #6 scoring offense in the nation and put up just short of 40 points per game.

Names on the front of the uniform is not what you should be focused on.

I really want to know is why do you insist on bringing your weather with you each time you visit.

The game time temperature was slightly above our usual low for Dec.

How would you feel if we brought 100 degree temp with 90% humidity when we visit Knoxville in Aug?

Surprised the heck out of me you chose to drop 8 all day against Seth.

Hard to believe that you would allow anyone of his caliber to sit back and have all day to find an open receiver.

He has just short of 11,000 passing yards and around 81 TDs in just 3 years.

Is on pace to make the top 10 all time NCAA passing list.

As for the play before halftime.

Last year that play never would've happened.

Don't think it would've happened this year if the line wasn't as large as it was.

Coach Silverfield likely looked at the 10.5 line and thought there's nothing to lose by pulling out all the stops.

Enjoyed hosting your fans.

If and when you attend the Liberty Bowl again avoid the tourist eateries and eat where the locals eat.

For the record come Jan 9th the stadium will "officially" become our home field.

Waiting for the minutes of the last city council meeting to be approved and ownership of stadium switches from the city to the University of Memphis Foundation.

Then we begin the $200 million upgrade.

Odds are next time you visit you may see a completely different stadium."

Glad to hear you will be updating that stadium.
Wanted to share some of overall experiences.
Negatives:
Weather...goes without saying, we want warmer temps or at least sunshine.

Stadium: I don't think anything had really been changed /updated since we were there in 2017. (Maybe the video board, it seemed to have a very clear picture for replays...the few times they actually showed one.) Not horrible by any means but definitely came away appreciating our stadium set up. Entry to the stadium, everyone was funneled to one spot to go through metal detectors, then the ticket readers were not working properly. Finally read the bar code after several attempts. Luckily, we headed in early so were in our seats in time for the coin toss.
Commercials shown during the game all featured U of Memphis...I thought we were the "Home Team"?

Halftime: Memphis Band got to play but ISU did not? WTF? Then they had some group perform that I have never heard of, they weren't bad but if I want a concert, I don't buy FB tickets.

Hok fans crashing our bowl game wearing Iowa gear and Beat State buttons. Talked to several in the parking lots and in the game. When I reminded them that their team plays in Florida, they told me they would rather watch us lose than watch the Iowa offense. The group behind me had tickets on the 50 yard line...SMH Memphians that were sitting in front of me, understood as they pointed out the Tennessee fans a couple rows down wearing their orange gear.

Positives:

Every Memphis fan I spoke to...and I talked to a bunch of them...was super nice. They constantly thanked me for making the trip and offered advice on what to do while in town. They were expecting us to demolish them and said their coach was on the "hot seat" and needed to win to keep his job. After winning 9 games this year///
Even heading to the car after the game, they were hamble winners and continued to thank us for coming down and wished us luck next year.

Food...tried BBQ from several different spots and it was all delicious.
Drink...tried several local craft beers and liked them all. (Can't remember the name of the brewery)

Small Crowds: This could also be a negative, however it was easier to find parking and get service on Beale than it was in 2017.
Parking/Tailgating: Goes along with the smaller crowds, plenty of room in the lots.

ISU Band: Several groups of around 40 band members roamed the parking lots. We had 3 groups stop and play for us at our tailgate. Even did the juicy wiggle by request with us old guys doing the dance...at least the part that we knew.

Tickets: Even though I made the decision to go Tuesday afternoon, still plenty of good seats were available. Sat on the 50 yard line for basically what I pay for ISU tix on the 5.

Game: Yes , I know we lost, however, seeing Rocco put up some tremendous stats gives a great reason to be optimistic about the future. Being there in person, Memphis deserved the win, so I am not nearly as bitter as most on here that watched on TV seem to be.

Overall, I nice 3 day whirlwind trip. I'm glad I went, if we had won it certainly would move the satisfaction needle a few notches higher.

We've definitely got to teach you to get your Funk on if you never heard of the Bar Kays.

This was the reformed group as all but two of the original members died with Otis Reading.

One survived the crash and another wasn't on the flight.

Maybe get you to tour Stax Studios.

Give it to 2026 Liberty Bowl and you'll definitely see a difference.

oh if the game was held today (55 and sunny) there would have been a bigger walk-up ticket crowd (prob hits 50k) but not with 40 and cloudy...Memphis doen't do cold weather well.

I hope you guys get a Liberty Bowl bid against an SEC team (y'all gotta be sick of us lol) some time starting in 2026...you won't recognize the Liberty Bowl after 220 million is put into the 60 yo girl.

JFC he didnt regresses, he was who he was. Holding every ISU QB record discounts anything you post. No one saw him as a top 5 round pick. You are a moron.
Lol
You have always been an idiot. Holding records doesn’t say anything about development. JFC

He was who he is? Yes, he never changed or developed.

Until he left ISU and got better coaching
