Lard should start

I agree with you but the problem is Beverly cannot even get his put backs up without getting blocked. Young, Lard and Brase should basically get all the minutes they can handle. Brase probably can't handle a ton with his health/conditioning, and Solo and Young will have their foul issues from game to game. Beverly will still get his minutes because he plays within himself and doesn't really make many mistakes out there. Talley will also be able to contribute at the 3/4 spots when healthy.

I've seen less athletic guys get their shot up with timing and head fakes (or lack thereof). That can be taught (Beverly is fairly raw still). Talley takes some of the minutes there too as you noted. Beverly's main liability is in guarding anyone with quick feet. Luckily, Iowa is coming up lol.

I have no idea how/why Jeff Beverley is getting so many minutes. Its become pretty clear that this team needs to be centered around Wigginton and Lard not only to benefit this year, but next as well

It isn't who starts, it is who is playing well during the critical points in the game. Radical departure for CF but I'd let the Coach coach.

We are absolutely going to need Beverly to give us minutes in conference, especially against teams like WVU. He needs minutes in the non-con to get ready for that kind of competition. Prohm has tinkered with the line-up during the non-con and trimmed it down for the conference slate the past two years. There's zero reason to think that strategy won't continue.

.....
Surprised that nobody has noticed that Jeff Beverly is this years equivalent of Merrill Holden .....

Yes, we've noticed and that's what we are worried about. I hope we don't wait until Feb. until we get our talented and energetic big guy on the floor more. Even CSP admitted he waited too long with Solo last year.

The biggest risk I see in starting Lard is that he and Solo both have the potential to have 2 fouls before the under 16 timeout and then we're really screwed. There's no doubt that he is the more explosive athlete but we will need minutes out of Beverly, even if it's just 5-10/game. If I have to choose, I rather have those minutes at the beginning of the game than the end.

Lard is the most athletic bigs we got. Our defense and offense seems to be on point when Lard is in the middle.

Solomon seems to be one step too slow defensively. He doesn't rotate well either. He needs to be aggressive on offensive end little more.

Beverly is there for a reason (rebounds and minutes) but I cringe everytime he takes a jumper.

When this team runs, they are really fun to watch.

I see it as we simply need him; ie Lard and Solo are high risks to foul out, and Brase isn't ready physically to play a majority of minutes. We want those guys eligible and able to play at the end of games.

At worst he is eating minutes to so those two can play in crunch time. As Lard/Solo learn to play with less fouling, along with Brase getting more experience, I bet we see his minutes diminish.

Speaking of line-up changes, did anyone else hear the comment from the announcers last night about Monte and NWB? They said Monte told Prohm to have NWB switch to point. I would love to have CW or Jared confirm that or have Prohm comment on that publicly. Could be a fun story for the fans to read.

I think he already did...happened this summer maybe.

Niang would make a great assistant coach, just saying.

IIRC it happened before the trip to South Carolina, after the loss to Milwaukee. The announcers for that tournament talked about it a few times.

That may have been when Prohm sent a text to MM saying NWB would start over him....I think Prohm declined to comment on MM's reply, haha.

Staff did what they had to do, but based on the last two Grad transfer classes, I’m pretty happy we won’t be needing any next year unless somebody leaves AND we have a chance at a game changer.

Right or wrong, Prohm seems to give grad transfers the chance to keep their spot until it’s quite clear they’ve been passed up.

Prohm did comment on it. He said he and Monte were watching the team this summer and prohm was wondering if Babb should play the point. Monte then mentioned it out loud.

By the way, the Monte/prohm relationship is a really great one.

"Beverly averaging 20 minutes a game likely isn’t in our best interest."
"Beverly brings nothing, why so many minutes?"

Those comments aren't trying to rip on him? Not to mention this comment.
"He just doesn't seem to belong at this level."
I mean, Steve Prohm thinks he belongs at this level. What college coaching experience to you have?

Oh, and he outrebounded Lard, Young and Brase last night.
He out rebounded Lard and Young against Western Illinois.
He out rebounded Lard, Young and Brase against Tulsa.
He out rebounded Young against Milwaukee.

Its not like he's been completely useless, but Young and Lard are foul prone. Brase has the knee history. Beverly will play some important minutes this year.

The guy is fine as long as he doesn't shoot the ball. Yikes, there were some really ugly ones thrown up there last night, and it seemed like he took 4 shots in a row.

Honestly the play of the bigs in general has been poor on the offensive side. Seems like no one can finish around the basket if even slightly contested. Young had one nice move to the basket last night, and I really can't recall much else. I know there were several misses right under the basket.

Nope, and if you interpret it that way it’s a you problem.

We won’t win many games with him playing 20 minutes. Perhaps we won’t either way, but at least there’s more ROI playing Young and Lard, or even Talley. Sure, start Beverly to shorten the game and eat up minutes in case of foul trouble for the other three and Brase.

On that note, in general the posts aren’t exactly indicating they’re getting what they need to develop. Forwards can take some time, but Young can do much more than he’s been showing. Heck, he showed more last year at times against Big 12 competition.
