Lard should start

A dose of humility wouldn't hurt either. Twice, he receives a pinpoint pass to score a layup and gives the body language that HE's the star. Then, misses the FT.

No more than Wigginton does, or Niang did. More important is his demeanor when he's called for a foul. He pouts and his whole body sags, instead of moving on to the next play. I don't see anyone else on the team doing that.

I think its safe to say by the reaction of his teammates and rushing to talk to him immediately after some of his emotion, they are dealing with it, too. He does have some growing up to do, yet can still play with that passion. Guessing he hasn't had a whole lot of disciplined coaching in the last couple of years with his transitions he's made. Hope the kid willingly accepts all the coaching Prohm can/will give him, ...then turns into a beast.

Lard will start when he starts playing for his teammates and not for himself. That first foul was all on Lard and was lucky he didn't get T'd up. After he scored Lard was jawing in Garza's ear the whole way back. The 2 were going at it trying to get position and Lard did too much. The second foul Lard was trying to make it about himself.

It's a fine line between harnessing his intensity and energy while having him realize he needs discretion in certain situations. That is what's holding him back some emotional maturity on the court.

He's a freshman, lighten up. He may not start till he's a senior but he'll be a huge part of the rotation. The good thing is teams are going to go after Lard till he figures it out.

Tell Prohm to lighten up and get a grip. He's the one that suspended Lard early in the season.

After he learns not to get in foul trouble after 2-3 min. of playing time. Extremely talented; needs to make better decisions on the court.

I was against Beverly starting but he played well against Iowa. He makes that mid range jumper almost automatic, and he made two really good passes which resulted in points. Also, hauled in some nice rebounds.

I was all for Lard starting until I saw him pick up 2 fouls in about 1 minute of court time in the first half. He needs to learn to focus his intensity. Right now it consumes his judgement. Having the fire and using the fire are two different things.

Hans looks great as of late to me. Not much of a scoring threat so far, but he facilitates well and competes on the boards. Plus he makes free throws in the clutch. This team has a lot to offer Prohm. Just need to find the best way to use everyone, while keeping people out of foul trouble.

I've never understood why some people get obsessed about who starts? It doesn't really matter. Minutes are MUCH more important than who starts.

Right now, Lard is easily best coming off the bench. First of all, he provides a spark of energy when he comes into the game, and second, with his propensity for getting into foul trouble, the more time Prohm can buy at the start of games with him on the bench the better. Obviously if we get down right off the bat, Lard may need to come in pretty early, but as long as we're in the lead to start the game, why put him in, and just buy as many foul free minutes as you can.

If we play well and get solid leads against the non-con teams left (UNI is the exception), I expect that our three Freshmen will get some good minutes. Add Jakolby Long to that list of extended minutes if he is good to go. I don't remember Jakolby even touching the ball in his limited minutes against Iowa.

I'm all for celebration but the arms down flex and scream is so overused by our team. DJ does it like every other 3. The one time I saw wig do it the other team ran down and scored before he could get back on D.
Call me old school but I like the Naz calm cool collected version of celebration.

These aren't planned celebrations. They're natural reactions to adrenaline.

I watched highlights of Thursdays game...he does it when others score too.

Passionate teammates are fine by me and I have no concern with Prohm garnering focus from a group based on two full seasons.

If my 19 year old self even stepped on the floor at Hilton I'd be pointing screaming and flexing after every pass, shot, whatever haha.

15 & 11 in 19 minutes, why would you change a thing? If he can improve from now to the middle of March as much as he has this year he's going to be hard to handle.

I know he was here in January but it seems all the reports we heard said his was doing individual workouts rather than practicing with the team to get acclimated to this level.

Unfortunately, the only non-conference game left (other than Tennessee and UNI) is Maryland Eastern Shore. It's gone quickly.

I know this was against Alcorn State, and I know some of these rebounds were getting his own misses (though I thought that was what a good garbage man does down low, fighting on the boards until the ball is through the hoop?), but looking at this...

!!!

We have really missed a guy the past two years (and Hogue and Ejim are the best two examples of one that I can think of right now) who was incredibly efficient like that not through skill/shooting but simply generating possessions for themselves on the boards.

He is going to complement Solomon well. Solo is more the type to box out hard for a defensive rebound but does not crash hard for offensive boards, and Solomon needs fed in good position and has a developing mid-range game. Lard is all fight and point blank.

Yeah, agreed, Solo and Lard will be a nice pair when it's all said and done. One thing I love about Solo, and you mentioned it, is he performs a box out better than most I've seen at his age. In HS my coach would have us do a rebounding drill where the goal was to have 4 on 4 box outs and the ball had to bounce 3 times before the person boxing out could grab it, while Offense was obviously trying to get it. I think of that drill every time Solomon boxes out, because i think I've seen the ball bounce about 2 feet in front of him while he continues to push out his man at least 10 times this season.

The point being, with Solo you can have him worry about keeping the best rebounder off the boards, while allowing Lard to do his normal thing of going up and getting the ball at the highest point possible. If they can get that figured out to the point it is effective for the both of them, it could be huge in our ability to help keep larger teams off of the offensive glass.

Agree. Those guys are incredibly efficient because they add a lot without taking opportunities from others. He’s giving us a little of what we missed by Juiston going elsewhere (we’d be a different team with both imo).

And like Ejim and Hogue, I think Young and Lard can do more as primary scoring options than we are currently utilizing. That’s the next step imo.
