KRNT Reuniting Marty & Miller

It's no secret Marty has done a lot of shady things and has burned quite a few bridges, but I'll admit he's talented.

Really? I don't think he's anything special as a sports radio guy. His greatest talent seems to be being an complete ass and having Ken Miller agree with him.

Every once in a while I'd tune in because KXNO was on a commercial or CW and Ross were talking about the hawks, and I'd end up turning it to music stations instead. I just can't stand that smug jerk. Not to mention they shat on ISU any chance they could get.

I've listened to Marty and Miller off and on for a long time, and I always enjoyed them. They were band-wagon guys when it came to local sports, but it seemed they were pretty fair about both schools, aside from their dislike for our AD. It started to feel like things were going downhill for them lately, though. I think they pissed off most of the local Cyclone friendly media, as their Cyclone "expert" was a journalist from Cedar Rapids. The worst part is, in the past few weeks, Marty seemed to really be going out of his way to make it sound like he is and always has been a Hawkeye supporter. Not sure what his angle was, but good riddance, if that's how it was going to be.

I'm curious what you enjoyed about this show. Not trying to be a jerk, just curious. I don't think they had any really fresh takes or interesting banter or guests. Maybe that's just me.

Marty is a jerk and not enjoyable to listen to.

I'd listen to ken if he had a show of his own though. He's boring but actually talks sports.

No offense taken. Marty could be really funny at times, especially when he could laugh at himself, and not take himself so seriously. Other days, he was terrible. I feel like Ken did a pretty good job of keeping him in line and letting him know when he was being a pompous ass. I enjoyed their stories about the old days at "The Jock" and some of the trips to sporting events they took together. I didn't mind their guests like Bob Ryan and "Bama" Bob. Even their Cyclone guy wasn't too bad. I won't lose any sleep over this, but I found them entertaining at times.

My "always enjoyed them" comment from my original post might have been a bit of an exaggeration.

Ok. I didn't listen often enough to hear Marty laugh at himself. Usually he was all in on being a pompous ass.

That guy from Cedar Rapids is my boy Dylan Montz and he's actually in Des Moines. Has Rob Gray's old job as the Gazette Iowa State correspondent. I prefer to stay out this discussion but just wanted to add that to hype up one of my guys.

To each their own.

I do like it when they talk about Vegas lines, overs/unders ect. Just appeals to me I suppose. I don't even bet on sports either ha.

Yeah, like I said, I didn't mind him too much. It just seemed strange to me that they used a Cedar Rapids guy as their Cyclone contact. Makes more sense now that you say that.

I remember tuning in once close to the election and Marty asked one of the guests who he was voting for and the guy went on a 2 minute diatribe about a candidate that Marty had been very publicly supportive of (trying to be vague to keep this away from the cave) and after he finished Marty was like "well let's just stick with sports, shall we?"

Marty was also at Augusta for the Master's - I wonder what sponsor paid for that trip and if they would have done so knowing that the show was going off the radio waves the following week?

I remember a few years ago when he started talking up the Masters a couple of months prior - sounded like he was trying to drum up discussion and interest with the audience so he could leverage the station into sending him (which they did). Frankly, although there is interest in the Masters, I never thought there was enough to justify someone in his position in going. Sounded like he was able to do it, again.

He's good at trolling. I guess that's a skill. Just not something I want to listen to for even a minute. I'll take the Fanatics every day.

Anyone have a recording of his F-bomb on air tirade that got him canned so many years ago?

I literally had to pull my car over because I was laughing so hard. Promos running over a slew of F bombs... man... Geoff Conn went full legend with that "accident."

I was just wondering the other week if these 2 clowns were still on air or not and this answers that for me. Good riddance! Marty is lucky to have stayed around as long as he has with all the people he has screwed over. He must do some really good brown nosing to have suckered as many people as he has and gotten away with it for as long as he has

Is he still in tight with J Crawford? Maybe that's how he somehow survives.
