Keeping TJ

The Niang family wasn't excited about TJs return to Ames.

Hoiberg recommended Prohm for the HC job.

That was because they knew if Fred was bringing TJ back it was to try to keep the team together and focused because Fred was leaving.

We don't know the full context of the comments from Niang's mom. She may have meant that "you don't want TJ back (because that means Fred is leaving)"

I think everyone needs to remember, too, that months ago JP knew this was a possibility. Fred was asked for names "to consider" that would fit the returning players demeanor and style of play. Its not like he told Jamie to hire him. The search, seven interviews (I mean I bet not too many programs interview seven guys) , and the fact that we took a guy with head coaching experience , tells me our AD and administration took this job very seriously and had the balls to do their jobs as expected despite all the interference and unfair accusations. I'm appreciative of their work.

Just stop with that. They were upset and he lied to them saying he would be their coach and he left for another job. That's what happens when recruiters leave, the players don't like it.

It's not that hard to get over that. Actually they are already good again.

So if TJ stays at ISU the last 2 years then we're an NIT team? Worse?

This team is really good. Prohm might just be good enough to win with him here.
I'm not putting all blame for those teams on TJ. I'm just saying that winning isn't the norm when he's around.

If Prohm wants to keep him, I'm sure it will work out. If not, I'm sure it will work out.
By and large, I only make the point in response to the Cult of TJ.

I would think in the middle of June, it'd be in Prohm's and TJ's best interest for TJ to stay on staff.

TJ would be part of a really good team, and certainly get looks for a HC job next year or the following year. Prohm gets a coach who knows the players, the recruiting area, and helps provide some continuity.

I won't be completely surprised if TJ doesn't get asked or doesn't accept the invitation to stay, but I'd be he does.
