Keeping TJ

IMO, shouldn't be done. Reasons why:

1. Just don't see TJ sticking around more than a year or two. His deal is high school recruiting, we just issued on a ton of 2017 and later offers, and IMO he'll leave before they ever have a chance to sign. The benefit of having him on the staff will be gone before it has a chance to be realized.

2. You don't want a guy you just interviewed against on your staff. Just my opinion, but internal politics is a potential and avoidable consequence.

I hope we keep him, but I guess he does have to be all in, or out. I don't blame him if he wants to move on, and there's also the possibility that Prohm will want to build his new staff from scratch. I do see the overall staff as a key to this hire. Need a really, really solid staff, and need some guys who have already established good relationships with top kids.

Not sure what's best, but you can't say that Fred's constant NBA situation was bad for recruiting, and you want tj to stay. Many recruits commit to asst's, and if have to think tj would be looking for a hc job asap.

I'd love to keep TJ around but i think we undersell what ISU has to offer to recruits, we will be fine either way. That said, again, I'd like to keep TJ around.

He (or at least his family) wants to be in Ames. I believe there was a quote saying his wife said she's moving back to Iowa whether he is with her or not. I say do everything you can to hire and retain a great recruiter, someone who Fred held in high regard, and has local ties.

I fail to understand why this is critical. There are plenty of qualified assistants out there if not.

I hope we keep him if his attitude is straight and if Prohm wants him. Need to make sure he's not disgruntled about the situation. If Prohm doesn't want him, I don't want him either.

We'll see. Like I said in another thread, just hope that he doesn't go be a recruiter for Marquette, MN, Nebby, or Iowa.

If Prohm maintains the trajectory we've been on for the past few years, we won't be competing against detritus like Nebraska and Iowa for recruits...

We have our vaunted "Head Coaching Experience", so we don't really need that "X and O's" assistant, we need a recruiter. I doubt Cornell will be sticking around much longer than next season if even that long. TJ and Cornell were pretty instrumental pieces to Hoiball.

I guess it is up to Prohm, and whether or not Otz is as "all in" on ISU as he was two months ago. I agree that putting a guy on your staff that interviewed for your job is an awkward situation for both parties, and it might be best to start from scratch if it bothers either guy even the slightest bit. I imagine they will figure it out. Having TJ for just one year as he is currently contracted might not be good enough for either party as well. Can't expect a guy to go balls out recruiting for you if he has reasons to take a job elsewhere in ten months. Maybe Otz will hit it off with Prohm and CSP will offer him a 4 year deal to get him to stay, but other than that, I can't see scenarios that are very stable going forward.

How about Prohm's assistants at Murray State? If they could do it there, why not here?

We will always be competing against them for recruits. Nebby sucks but Miles gets players. Iowa sucks but they get in state guys and there are some intriguing prospects coming up from in-state for 2017 and beyond.

So now that we have the HC experience that everyone wanted so bad we're going to trust our recruiting to mid-major assistants that have never recruited at a P5 level?

Have you seen the players he's been able to bring to Murray State? Talent is talent, whether it's in the Ohio Valley Conference or the Big 12, and Prohm and his staff have gotten it.
