Keeping TJ

It's clear Fred's decision was already made to leave at the time we hired TJ; so why bring back an assist. if it wasn't 100% he's Fred's replacement - they must have thought he'd be ok to continue in the asst. coach role, yes?

I'm sure JP said all the politically correct stuff like, "we'd have to go through the hiring / interviewing process, but you'd be a strong canditate..". Make me think TJ's eyes were wide open and knew he wouldnt be a sure thing. In that case, it's hard to see someone quit 2-months after taking the job, unless other promises were made.

We need him to stay. Need an experienced p5 level recruiter and he's as good as we'll every find imo.

No it wasn't.

Have you seen the players he's been able to bring to Murray State? Talent is talent, whether it's in the Ohio Valley Conference or the Big 12, and Prohm and his staff have gotten it.

I've seen that they haven't been able to make the NCAA tourney very often playing against OVC competition.

We will always be competing against them for recruits. Nebby sucks but Miles gets players. Iowa sucks but they get in state guys and there are some intriguing prospects coming up from in-state for 2017 and beyond.

They get the in-state guys that aren't good enough to play at UNC and other bigger name programs, and they can have them.

My point is that if we want to be a big-name program, the overwhelming majority of our players will come from all over the country (like they currently do). Being able to recruit locally is pretty insignificant at that stage.

I'd like to keep TJ around for 1 year IF it helps ease the transition for the guys we have on roster.

But, if Prohm doesn't want him, I'm fine with that too.

Well you can say goodbye to Canada and Brewster again if TJ is gone. Of course we've gotten used to that the past couple of years since TJ stopped recruiting for us but this isn't going to be Hoiball. I'm fine with the hire, but my expectations have been tempered massively. Getting players is a huge concern for me now and I hope that one of our fine reporters asks the question about Transfer U at the first opportunity.

Did that dissuade the NBA scouts who will have drafted at least two of his players since 2013?

This seems to be the biggest selling point that I'm seeing thrown around. Color me underwhelmed, the NBA is a fickle thing and I don't put much credence in to a guy getting drafted = great college player.

Disagree. This coming season is the most important so far re: whether the program continues to move up. Great success will lead to better recruiting. I think the transition to a new coach will be smoother if TJ is still here as he will give a sense of continuity and connection to the players. I think the team will do better this year if TJ is still on the staff, even if he leaves the following year.

Well lets see, he Is a basketball coach so what the **** do you think hed do dumb ***
So a guy who mainly recruits at a college level is going to be an NBA assistant? Wow, that would be very smart of Hoiberg to bring a guy of his credentials to the NBA. Might wan't to use your head moron.

I guess I just don't see how that's a negative, either. The guy brought NBA talent to tiny, insignificant Murray State and managed to win a boatload of games with them...how's that a bad thing?

Hey they still have to find guys to fill out their summer league roster

Doesn't mean anything at this point honestly.

There is going to always be a handful of people who just have to freak out about any and everything. Logic, reasoning, facts, etc. don't register for them. But kudos for trying.

It means exactly as much as whatever hypothetical recruits we might or might not get if TJ were to stay versus leaving.

So far Fred is bringing the following players/coaches to the Bulls:
Charlie Henry (last I read he will actually be on staff)
TJ
Cornell Mann
Royce White
Kane
Monte (next year)
Harrison Barnes

Anybody else with an Iowa State/Ames connection Fred will bring in?
