Keep the coaches

In my opinion i enter each season thinking we will win 3 or 4 games. I also know that it will be fun for the family to go up and tailgate and cheer. Its not a loser mentality. Its a realistic mentality. Im not on the team. It would be a loser mentality if i was a player. As a fan i have a realistic view of the team. If you want to rant and rave about firing the coach after every game. Go ahead. Its laughable.

You and your loser no expectation mentality is laughable.

Basketball is a way different animal. Basketball we have tradition and we only need 8 good players. We have decent football faclities but still nowhere near the big boys. We still have to recruit guys who are 4th and 5th options in there states. To think we should be top 5 in the big 12 is crazy in football. We have the smallest football budget. We have no instate recruiting advantage. We might get 3 kids a year to play for us in state. The rest go to Iowa.

Literally every visitor to our football facilities remarks that they are NFL caliber. To even insinuate that CPR doesn't have the tools he needs here is simply ridiculous.

I don't expect to see a great Cyclone team, either. That's nowhere near my expectation.
I simply want to see a team that can win 6-8 games every year. That should be a minimal standard, but is apparently much too high for Cyclone football. That's very disappointing.

You picked the wrong team to be a fan of, I'm afraid. If that's your goal, then the cards are stacked against us in almost all areas. We're in the wrong conference. We've got the wrong climate. We've don't have enough money. Iowa State is never going to be a 6-8 game winner every year. We're just not. Doesn't matter who the coach is.

Yes today was a huge disappointment but why dont you guys answer an honest question, do you guys really expect a Cyclone team with the gauntlet schedule they have year in and year out to win 6-8 games every year?

That rebuttal went out the window after we got curb stomped by Tulsa, UNi, and NDSU.

When you make the mistakes we do and play like a bunch of high schoolers, your up years will not be good enough.

Expecting that is not loser mentality. Accepting it is.

It really sucked when Cael Sanderson left ISU but you have to remember why he left. Recruiting sucks in Iowa. We are seeing a quick rise of TCU and WV because they are in areas where recruiting is much better than Ames. I am in no way defending our current state of business out on the field. A good coach can get mediocre players to rise above. Coach Tom Davis could do that at Iowa and they spit him out in favor of finding that next best thing. We are also in a tough conference that doesn't allow us the liberty of playing against 4 non-conference teams. B12 teams will have to grind it out against each other every season until we expand. We will never have the liberty to enter conference play only 2 games away from being bowl eligible like some conferences. That sucks too. Cael was able to do great things at ISU with what he had and recruit like a mad dog to get those good athletes. That is exactly what Holberg is doing right now. I think the current football system is on a down because recruiting fell lax for awhile and we leaned too much on the old players without developing new ones and the holes are figuratively and literally getting bigger. Burning our tickets and firing the coaches will not solve the problem because it makes the recruiting even more difficult. If there is one thing that ISU needs to do going forward it is to recruit with the intensity that Holberg has with his recruiting and DEVELOP those players. We should be seeing improvement on the field as the season progresses and we are not seeing that at all.

6-8 games as our floor for each season? Good luck with that. People are pretty dense.

WTF? No wrestling talent in Iowa? Sanderson left because he didn't like Pollard's half *** commitment to wrestlng.

Wut.

First, Cael is wrestling, not football. Second, Cael didn't leave because he couldn't recruit wrestlers to Iowa State (we were a top 5 program while he was here). He left because JP (rightfully) refused to invest any more money into wrestling than he had to, whereas Penn St gave him a blank check and told him to turn them into a wrestling school

Your example is just total crap.

Let's say 10 people that are "Fire CPR and clean house" guys. Those 10 guys have the "perfect" hire in mind. However each one has a different "perfect" hire. 9 of those posters will be back in 2 years complaining again. I understand the frustration that goes with a tough season. I'm also not a huge CPR fan. Do you really think they aren't trying their best to win? I voted that next year should be make or break for him. Support the players. They are who we should be focusing on. They work their tails off every day. Give Mangino some time. His offense is very creative and we saw flashes today. The catch and pitch around the end. Deep ball to Montgomery.

The difference between basketball recruiting and football recruiting is waay different. In basketball we have to recruit around 3 kids a year. We can go hard after three kids. In football we have to recruit kids that have not got offers from the texas schools and the florida schools. If they were offered by one of those schools they would take it. Now we have to get 20-25 of those kids every year that have not be3n offered by a Texas or Florida school. Then we have to beat out other schools for those kids. Its almost monumental what we have to do to get a good player to come here. Its almost luck.

I'm not convinced Jesus ****** himself would be able to put together a good recruiting class here. I'm more worried about finding a guy that's proven he can develop players. Just the way it is.

I'm glad that a coach that tries his best is what matters. Hire me as coach and after I fail, you can be rest assured because I am trying my best.
