Nick called it much earlier, but when I saw Damar Hamlin milling around behind the line it looked like something was up. I'm sure the Chiefs saw the same thing.

Who is a normal person, hated because the media posts about her. Maybe you should hate the people shoving her down your throat instead?
Called me on it. Yeah, I kind of fell for the media's dislike for Brittany, initially. Some of that is still there, but shouldn't be. My bad. Goes to show how we can be manipulated.
Watching her for myself, then seeing the Netflix show, Quarterback, she seemed fine to me also.

I remember after the play, the announcers mentioned that KC only had 10 players on the field, so it makes me think that they only ran it since they thought there would be an advantage from this (it was an audible).
You definitely see a side of her and Patrick on Quarterback that the media usually doesn't show. She has her moments where she puts her foot in her mouth on social media but for the most part she handles herself pretty well. As for his brother Jackson though he's another story... He wasn't featured on Quarterback other than he was in the background a few times and I am guessing there was a reason for that given some of his issues.
Interesting article on the Athletic about the Chiefs first two playoff games. They have 20 explosive offensive plays (more than 20 yards) so far in two games. That is more than any other Chiefs team in an entire playoff including their SB winning teams. The next best team was when they won it all the first time they had a total of 19 explosive plays and almost all through the air. This year is is a combo. History says the more explosive plays you generate they more likely you are to win. It is also impressive they did that in two very cold weather games.

The weird thing is the Chiefs were TERRIBLE at creating explosive plays during the season. That and their RZ TD conversion rate were the two biggest reasons they "struggled" like they did.
In general the Chiefs pass protection is what's allowing the Chiefs to make these plays. I'm too lazy to look it up, and don't know if the stats are openly out there, but on most of those big plays Patrick held the ball for a VERY long time. So contrary to a younger Kelce running away from people or Tyreek speeding on a fly route, this team is taking advantage of the defense being forced to cover for 5 plus seconds. On a veteran laden team, and the emergence of Rice, this has growingly worked in their favor. And with perfect timing given it's the POs.
The crazy thing is the Chief's D used to be terrible and almost exclusively relied on Jones, and to a lesser degree Mathieu and Clark to make plays. The last 3 years they have absolutely knocked their defensive draft picks out of the park, with Bolton, Gay, McDuffie and Snead all being PB caliber players. Karlaftis has also had a very good 2nd year, while it's too soon to know about Uzomah.
On Sunday Jones wasn't much of a factor, with the Bills surprisingly having a lot of success with single teaming him. In the past they would have been destroyed by a competent offense, but with one of the best back 7s in the league, the Chiefs were able to keep Buffalo's passing attack at bay. And the only guy who consistently got any kind of push/pressure? Karlaftis.

I'd say it's a little bit of both. To a degree it's concerning you "waste" a first round pick on a guy that can't even see the field but part of the reason he isn't is due to the pieces and roster spots in front of him.
Karlaftis got a lot more snaps last year but really didn't do a whole lot. This year he's an integral piece of the defense and the line rotation. If Uzomah doesn't get on teh field next year then that was a massive waste of a pick.
With the salary cap, you have to draft people and sit them for a year sometimes knowing you are going to lose players to the cap in a year or two. That was the reason the Chiefs took Uzomah, they were looking down the road to next season, more than needing him to come in and play this season. They like his upside, and there was no one else on the board that they thought could help them more in that position this year. The offensive line and defensive lines you have to draft for down the road, bring them in and let them learn for the most part unless the guy is a complete stud.
