NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

So you found one incident in 6 years that reflected poorly and based your assessment entirely on that, while ignoring hundreds of examples of good sportsmanship?

Please. Come on man.
Lol. The incident happened 6 weeks ago on national television and was a subject of much discussion on both social and traditional media.
It's not like I had to comb through hours of footage to find it. It's literally the first result that comes up if you Google "Patrick Mahomes sportsmanship"

Look, I'm not a Mahomes hater. Far from it. I love the guy. He's got a fire and passion that is not rivaled by many. It's probably his best asset. But making a claim that he's "always" a good sport, when one of his most recent examples of losing a game featured him being an objectively bad sport. I'm not sure if you just forgot about it, or just didn't want to acknowledge it, when you made your statement, but it definitely happened.

Wow, you googled it and found something in the internet claiming he’s a bad sport? Well, case closed. I’m convinced. If it’s on the Internet, that settles it.

A bad sport to the other team? Nah, he’s always respectful. Personally I think if anything he is too nice, he could stand to be a little cockier like many other QBs.

But anyway, it’s ridiculous to argue that Mahomes is not a good sport because he got fired up and pissed at the refs a couple times. I remembered that post game flare up, I just don’t agree with your conclusion based on that while ignoring everything else.

Again, you're the one who made the claim that he's "always" a good sport. By his own words he said he regretted the way he behaved in that interaction with Josh Allen. Because he did not show good sportsmanship.

Going to be really interesting to see what way they go. What is more valuable, keeping Jones and filling in around him with lower contracts or keeping the other guys and letting Jones go. Tranquill only signed a one year deal as well.
Jones is a beast but payroll is already tight. Gotta think spreading that money around to be a more well-balanced defensive with some depth is more important than using it all on 1 elite player and then having to scrape the bargain bin to fill out the rest of the spots. I've pretty much prepared my mindset that he's going to walk after this season.

Jones wants to be paid in the top 2/3 D lineman in the league, he is at that level, but at 29 years old he still has a couple years of top performance before he starts to drop off. Just no way the Chiefs can give him what we wants and still keep a decent defense together. Like Hill, they should move him at the draft and use the picks on younger players.
Its called the price of success and the Pats played the game for years, do not fall in love with the player, move them a year early is better than a year late when they start to cost you money. The only exception is the QB.

If you were following the progression of the regular season it was sort of one things after another. Starting in week 1 when a drop led to a pick 6 and a loss by 1 pt to the Lions. The Eagles game was lost when MVS literally dropped a perfect pass. Mahomes said he could have thrown it a little shorter. Some really bad calls vs. the Packers (Both benefiting and hurting the Chiefs, but a terrible pass interference call.) And culminating in the Buffalo game. And yes Toney was offsides. Both Mahomes and Reid looked bad at the end of that game, but it was very uncharacteristic to both of there personalities if you've followed the Reid/Mahomes era at all. Reid often puts all blame on himself when they lose. He will never throw anyone under the bus. Mahomes really mimics that behavior, he really could have lashed out at the horrible WR play all season, but he never does. And look, MVS had 2 amazing catches this week, so it does something for team morale. Also he doesn't trash talk the other team and often gives the opposing players all types of praise after games.

I feel the one instance you are highlighting is yes showing some bad sportsmanship, but it certainly the exception to what Mahomes has shown is his personality throughout his career.

Dang. I knew if felt like the offense was on most of the night, but didn't realize it was this good.

From The Ringer article - https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2024/...uffalo-bills-kansas-city-chiefs-detroit-lions

14th: That’s where Sunday’s game ranks by yards per play out of Patrick Mahomes’s 112 career starts

The Chiefs averaged 7.7 yards per play. That’s not methodical. It’s maniacal. Just unrelenting destruction.

What does 7.7 yards per play do for a team? The Chiefs faced five third downs the entire night. They had 24 first downs and five third downs. Think about that. The Chiefs’ series conversion rate—the amount of first downs that eventually became a new first down or a touchdown—was 84 percent. The league average this year? Seventy percent.

I wholeheartedly agree with this entire post. I am a Mahomes fan, I think he's great, but that doesn't mean I can't call out an instance where he wasn't as great. The guy's already on a pedestal of his own making. Acknowledging that he has had faults doesn't tarnish that.

I would argue that Mahomes reaction to his mistake was yet another example of good sportsmanship from him. Even when he got frustrated and made a mistake, he did the right thing and owned up to it.

You want to hear a real example of poor sportsmanship? The Bills stadium staff shut off the hot water to the Chiefs locker room, throwing a tantrum after the loss.

C'mon guys. Why are we talking about who we sign/let go in the offseason. We have got two more games to win! Quit jinxing us.
I'm guilty of this talk. I'm still looking forward to hopefully 2 more games but at the same time also realize this team as we know it is going to look different next season too so doesn't hurt to speculate a bit either.

This is by far the best defense they've had in the Mahomes era and unfortunately this probably will be the last run with some of the big pieces on that side of the ball that is headed towards free agency in the offseason. Hate to think where this team would be right now without the emergence of Rice at WR as you can't help to think had they been able to get Hopkins or OBJ last offseason how much different the offense would look with a 2nd reliable WR option. Other than the Hardman fumble and the Watson drop the WR group played about as well as you could hope for yesterday. Smith and Taylor had the 2 penalties on the same play too but otherwise played pretty mistake free for a change. Need to keep minimizing the mistakes and penalties for 2 more games if they are going to defend the title as the remaining 3 teams all are pretty stout on both sides of the ball,
