NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

Pretty good call, I'd say by you! And turns out Humphrey was still there. So you like the picks for the Chiefs this year, esp. Bolton and Humphrey in the 2nd round like you described here?

It's like you had a crystal ball! The edge rusher you thought they might go for in 2nd round, they waited 'till the 4th round; what do you think of Joshua Kaindoh ?

It seems like the Chiefs did pretty good overall. I'm glad they addressed the OL. That was a glaring need.
I thought the Chiefs had an excellent draft, and off season overall. They filled needs on the O line, D line, got a Linebacker, another TE and a WR. They were picking from a strength and used that idea to improve the team. I was hoping that Osemalie would get another chance at resigning, but not sure they have the money nor the need right now.

If KO is healthy I'd like to see him back in KC but I dunno given his health lately if he can still play tackle. He didn't play much this year before going down and that was at LG and the previous season he only played 3 games with the Jets so that is just 8 total games over the past 2 seasons he has played. In 2018 he played in 11 so I am a little concerned about his durability going into his 10th season at age 32. Would love to see him play again but he may only be OL depth at this point given his recent injuries.

Yeah so sad what happened to Kelechi last year, tearing both knees on only the 5th game of the season! Arhgg! It would be great if he could make another comeback. Looks like he's working hard at it! It would be great also if he could stay a Chief! We'll see.
Will pending free agent LG Kelechi Osemele be with Chiefs in 2021? (usatoday.com)

The recent signing of Mike Hughes, has me wondering how Deandre Baker is recovering after that gruesome leg fracture last year. I wasn't able to find any rehab updates at all. :( Anybody know how DeAndre B. is doing?

Five Things to Know About New Chiefs’ Cornerback Mike Hughes
Both Hughes and Baker are former 1st round draft picks, form 2018 and 2019.
Still no real news yet on DeAndre Baker. Here's a quote from Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo on 2/10/21, I think:
“I’m glad you asked about him,” Spagnuolo said. “He was just on the practice squad, and then he played in the last game that didn’t mean anything to us, and he was playing really well, made a great break on one play, almost had an interception. The injury that he had, it was ugly, but he’s gonna be okay. The femur was fractured, believe it or not, but it was a clean one and it’s gonna heal fine. I kinda like his talent."

So that sounds hopeful, like it was a clean break and should heal fine. It's just suspicious that there is no recent word.

What do you think the Chiefs will do with Breeland? Do they want him back or are they trying to get the money down?

The Vikes supposedly offered him a contract last week, but haven't seen the number.

I'm guessing the difference is years, not money. I think he's played on 3 straight 1 year contracts. I'm wondering is at this point he might just wait until someone loses a starter in camp and try to get a 3 /4 year deal out of it.

Hoping they can resign him else they need to go find another veteran CB to add some depth. They have some nice young guys that have been stepping up at corner but Breeland has been that steady veteran in the secondary they don't really have a replacement for at the moment.

Breland has done well for the Chiefs. I would imagine they might want to sign him. Breland probably wants more money. That is going to be the Chiefs weakness, signing everyone they want due to cap space.

It looks like Veech is only offering 1 year so far.

I don't think Smith is a starter right away but he is a nice backup. Blythe and Duvernay-Tardiff will be playing before he does. Depth is much better this year.

It is really early and they don't have any pad time yet but it sure seems like the coaches love Smith.

Several of the OL they have added in this offseason are more towards the KO "big and mean" type rather than the athletic in space type that Reid has typically gravitated to on the OL. Reid is a huge fan of the screen game.

I am really pumped to see what this new rendition of the OL does in 2021. I loved watching KO maul dudes last year, and I'm hoping for more of the same from this crew this year.

The Long injury sucks but it wasn't a guarantee he was going that he was going to be the starter at RG with the depth they have on the OL now so it's not the end of the world for the OL rebuild. Tardif will likely start now and that was probably going to be a battle for that spot in camp anyways.

Hope they can find a decent veteran CB to replace Breeland. Adding another WR to the mix also wouldn't hurt.
