It wasn't without contact. He stumbled and fell because he got grabbed by a d-lineman.

OK, I freely admit that I just realized that I might be ignorant about a rule in football. I always thought that the moment a ball carrier goes down, the play ended right there, regardless of the reason he went down -- contact, no contact, or whatever. Otherwise, what would prevent a trick play like, for example, a QB taking a knee to end a play then getting right back up and throwing it because there was no contact?

I have relatives who had some form of connection to Raymond Berry back in the 60s and they got to go down into the locker room after a Colts game, meet Unitas etc. and much of the team was having a cig and a beer, just another day at the job.

Definitely different times.

Okay, it just seems like before I have seen running backs bouncing off of guys and then stumble, fall, and get up and take off.

In the NFL if you go down without contact, you can keep going.

Not the case in any other level. Down is down.
