JTS Improvements - Want More

Been a customer of a handful of different power companies over the years. MidAmerican is the worst by far. Wish they would spend their money on improving themselves and quit lining W Buffett’s pockets. I would drop them in a second, but have no choice.

I know there is nothing you can do about it but RECs for the win. I appreciate my electric coop every day.

Lol, what? Are you the same person that always has trouble with the phone company, the trash collector, the tv company and now the cell phone company? How are they the worst?

I hate to say it, but if we get “left out” there won’t be as much demand. Now if we get into the B1G and CMC stays, there will be plenty of reason and money to expand.

1) If we are "left out", it would likely be some combination of the "big 8" teams + AAC and / or others... Point is, we still have a chance to compete for a spot in a 12 team playoff (if this happens) and we could still have a very similar strength of schedule.

2) The biggest issue with being left behind is the media money which is getting set to explode. In the short term this will not be a huge issue (we can make up for the current gap with school funding similar to what UConn, Cinci, UCF, Houston, and every other G5 team does today in order to stay competitive). Long term, the gap will be too large and when players are paid directly by schools (based on supreme court ruling, I would be surprised if this does not happen in the next 5 yrs or so) schools without these huge media deals will struggle even more.

So, I would actually argue that Premium Seating and other investments (the Pollard and Light district) become VERY important short term projects to increase revenue from non-media sources and raise the profile of the University making it more attractive for inclusion in the future.

The landscape of college athletics is changing. I have no idea how it will turn out... but if you are left out initially (could happen for a couple years) you have to figure out a way to get back in. I think there will be opportunities, it just takes time.

Utah was not always in a P5 conference, TCU got their break 10 years ago. Rutgers was in the right state at the right time.... Iowa State is in a good spot and has been growing ... got to show this can continue regardless of potential short term set backs.

Also will be harder to get ranked. 1 loss and you might be out of top 25.

Understand. I am not saying getting left out of a "power" conference is not a big deal. It absolutely is. Even if the playoff expands, the path will be much more difficult for a non-power conference team and bowls will be less impressive if you miss out... you are not going to the Fiesta Bowl if you lose your conf championship game.

However, in an expanded playoff you would at least have access. Toledo would have had a chance in Matt Campbell's last season there if they had won their conference. Houston at 11-1 finished ranked 19th in the final playoff standings and was the 6th highest ranked conf champ (so would have qualified for the #12 seed based on the expected rules). Toledo was neck and neck with Houston toward the end of the season but lost to NIU and then W Mich knocked them out of the rankings after the MAC championship game...

However, if we had a 12 team playoff in 2015 and Toledo beats WM (two big IFs, I know). Toledo would have won the mac, and may have gone to the playoff... Is Campbell at ISU today if that happens?

Point being, hope is not lost if worst case scenario happens. Not as good as our best case, but there are opportunities for ISU. Make the most of those opportunities, who knows where you will be in 5, 10 years. The invite may not be instant, we may have some transition years where we need to keep proving our value.. but we shouldn't just throw in the towel because things don't go our way immediately following the ou/tx exit. Got to keep funding the infrastructure, adding premium seating, etc. make yourself as attractive as you can to get picked up on the next opportunity.

I hope we get an invite to a power conference immediately. But if not, still opportunities to get to one in the medium term 5-10 yr time frame.

I never noticed this before, but watching this drone video I had the thought that the SPC borrows a little of the Towers design - a narrow foundation with overhanging upper floors. It's a stretch probably, but makes me wonder if it was intentional or not.

Parts of the Inside bowl of the stadium could use a good power washing and some paint. Don't know if you could paint those bleachers or just need to replace them.

I've definitely lived places with worse power utilities, power outages

Because this thread deserves it more than any

I never questioned it before but why is the NW hillside wheelchair accessible? I understand why the ramp goes down to the stands but it looks like it also leads onto the grass.

I've been saying this, especially after the south end zone was finished. If the bleacher color matched the clean cardinal of the end zone seats, it would make JTS look so much more big time. I understand you can't tell when it's full, but national broadcasts always have shots of the stadium when it's empty. Our bleachers are embarrassing.

Scheman also has the overhanging upper floors.

I agree.

I wouldn't mind seeing us not paint the bleachers and leave them the "natural" silver metal color. With our comparisons to Milan Puskar Stadium, I think WVU's stadium looks much cleaner when empty compared to Jack Trice due to this. Seems like even the south endzone corner bleachers are starting to look bad. Obviously when full with fans this is unnoticeable.

Or with my Vegas winnings replace all the bleachers with individual seats similar to the sukup south endzone (Louisville's stadium comes to mind for me with a complete stadium doing this that is not a pro stadium). Due to that decreasing seating capacity, also with those Vegas winnings replacing our press box with a new "sky suite tower" or whatever we are calling it now.

Seats were touched up and painted this summer and every summer as needed. Sometimes, old concrete simply looks dingy, especially when sitting next to newer concrete.

So that Cutter John can get back up the hillside.

(more seriously, handicap accessible =/= to wheelchair accessible)

ISU has done a pretty intentional job of matching new builds into the aesthetic of pre-existing buildings. Some of it is a bit industrial for my liking, but I think overall they've done a great job of making buildings from 2021 look like they fit with buildings from the 1960-70s without being dated.

So, what do you think of the new SPC from the perspective of "intentional job of matching new builds into the aesthetic of pre-existing buildings?"

For instance, it is a great building on its own, but I don't see the tie-in's to Hilton, Scheman, Stephens, Alumni, and JTS. The "overhang" does not do it for me. And the blocking of the Bergstrom Practice Facility is a great trade-off, but I miss seeing our football-shaped building, except from a few particular angles.
