If you really think reporting on the conference realignment situation in a different manner than the local media did is stroking ISU's ego, you are exactly the naive, impressionable listener taz is talking about.
Ignoring the malicious bias and tone of many local hacks (which is quite large) if the local media is simply going to repeat the cursory, 5 second outlook on a issues, it will fail as a business. What they could have done:
-report what it means to the state and central iowa economically to have ISU in a major conference (millions in tax revenue and spending)
-why all tax payers in the state should would want the power brokers in Iowa to support (meaningless or not) to get ISU in getting into the CIC
-what ISU brings to a conference, not what it does not (problem is they honestly think it brings nothing)
-how lucky Iowa is that it is already in the Big 10, and if realignment based soley on TV sets becomes universal, could be in trouble
-The Big East option
-Not celebrating the demise of the Big 12, especially considering it is still here
