Jimmy Johns

You obviously missed the days of "Flying Burrito" at the corner of Lincoln and Sheldon. It was the greatest drunk food Ames, and possibly the world, has ever seen.

This, I still remember always getting delivery after the bars at our house and then eating a 2 lb burrito in all of it's gloriousness with spicy corn salsa. Best stuff ever. Oh Flying Burrito, how I miss thee.

Jimmy Johns is good food, but the whole 'freaky fast delivery' thing is a bit of a joke, as they accomplish it by having a freaky small delivery area.

As for flying\fighting burrito, i remember it being really great originally, and going downhill over time i think after they sold it to its current owner.

It did go downhill. They started cutting out amounts of everything they put on their. In it's hay-day, it was amazing though.

It still seems to taste as good as always, just less stuff in it. Which was at least half of the appeal.

FWIW, I think its the same owner, but different managers. Could be wrong on that. The original manager left to start Bandit in DSM.

I like jjs and think there is an interesting sweetness to the bread that makes it addictive. I prefer subway because I can load up on the spinach, olives peppers and cukes. I like a good sandwich about as well as anything and probably need to find a good local joint to try too.
Have you tried Razzies on 90th between Maple & Blondo?
Razzies is a great local spot, everything is good.

Not exactly a local joint, but Gandolfo's Deli in Omaha has some pretty good sandwiches IMO.

After growing up on Sub City (#14) subs I really don't care for any other sandwhich shop. I will eat at them, but never really think Subway, JJ, or Quiznos is very good either.

Subway's chicken bacon ranch is pretty decent. I will give them that.

I was always under the impression that the Ames Jimmy Johns that was on Hayward was one of their earliest stores. Anyone know for sure? It started in Champagne I think. I know there was a store in Lincoln too. I don't think the heavy franchising started until the late 90's. Now they are everywhere.

I have never been to this establishment, but I hate it nonetheless. A few years back, they had a salmonella outbreak right before Christmas. My secretary was one of the victims and was not at work the day I needed her to purchase my wife's Christmas present, thus I had to go to Nordstrom myself to pick up the gift.

Enjoy your salmonella.

It's also oddly drawn.

There is a JJ 0.6 miles from me, yet my location apparently falls under the delivery area of one nearly 2 miles away.

Oh no!!! You had to purchase your own gift for your wife?!? Did you sue Jimmy Johns for the emotional torture of having to do something personally?
