*****Does anyone know the status or severity of his injury?**** He was really missed in the goaline situations against Iowa. I wonder if our staff will look at the game tape and think about implementing a more traditional goaline offense? 3 TE's an extra OL, going under center and using our muscle up front. Call me crazy, or call me maybe? Just a thought, but thats why they pay me the big bucks!

Re: Jeff Woody Update

Just stop running read option inside the 10 yard line. The spread doesn't work well with less field to defend so there is going to be more press at the line of scrimmage making the read option hard to run - OU figured this out that is why they use the Belldozer package.

Re: Jeff Woody Update

I'd like to see more pistol in the red zone, so our RBs can actually be up to speed when they get the ball. The zone read is much harder to make work when that many guys are in the box.

The negative effect of no Jeff Woody while in the red zone can't be overstated right now, IMO. I really think we get another TD or two on Saturday with him in.

I'd rather see the QB under center (not just in the red zone, but add the wrinkle all over occasionally), but because whatever reason they won't do that I agree the pistol makes far more sense in short yardage situations allowing the tailback a chance to get moving

So, what's the update on Woody's physical availability?

Another positive with the pistol is our guys get North-South. In the read option spread game, it is all lateral. On short yard situations I would love to see our backs have a full head of steam going N-S when they hit the line of scrimmage.

Woody is a bigger part of the offense than most give him credit for. We need him in there.

I like that idea as well, but when you think about it from a practice time perspective, when you major in the spread-read game, you run a risk going under center to more traditional short yardage sets. Also, Coaches think our matchups are better with WR's in the game than they do with our TE's in the game. I don't know how much our personnel figures into those SY/GL decisions but I'm guessing they do somewhat.

Re: Jeff Woody Update

Did anyone read original post?

yup. The thread title is "Jeff Woody Update". Not "Jeff Woody Update???", or "Does Anyone Have A Jeff Woody Update?" and then goes on to ask us for one. I clicked the thread expecting to be informed about Jeff Woody, like i would guess most other people did.

Re: Jeff Woody Update

I would certainly guess that he won't play this week, no reason to play and I have no inside info.

Well, dammit, Cycl1, if you would have just answered his damn question in this thread we all would have been informed about Woody!

I put this windmill entirely on you.
