Jeff Horner at ISU?

No Hawkeyes on our staff, please. I could not care less if it would upset people in Iowa City, just no interest in him.

Comments from story...

What a tool. Gable WAS loyal to ISU - ISU just wasn't loyal enough to Gable to offer him the ISU wrestling head coach job, so he took the first available one. Just happened to be at our biggest rival.

So what this guy's saying is that Horner wouldn't do the same thing because he's "loyal" and Gable isn't, even though he's getting older and opportunities are starting to slip away from him? Like I said, what a tool.

By the way, love the idea of Horner coaching here.

hawk fans don't know **** about Gable and ISU. They all think there was some big schizm and Gable chose the shining light of UI. Of course Gable chooses Iowa; his relationship w/ Iowa is much longer and deaper than w/ ISU now.

There is nobody with a stronger Hawkeye bloodline than Bobby Elliot. He is the son of Bump Elliot, former Hawk AD, played at Iowa and coached at Iowa. I don't have a problem with any former Hawk that can come and be a positive contributor. As said above Steve K did a fine job for us when he was here.

I know there has been contact I heard it at a basketball camp wed night. Jeff was talking about it in front of some of our players.

Can GA's be involved with recruiting?

I believe only phone contact, they can't go out on the road recruiting. Personally I don't think it is that big of a deal. A GA is a glorified manager IMO anyway, sure he will work with players at practice but come game day he is on the end of the bench and not involved in the x's and o's part of it.

Horner has made it known he wants to get into college coaching and if it is at ISU as a GA then so be it and good for him.

I'd assume this means Petey is done. If Freddy wants him, Horner should have a nice basketball knowledge.

It would not suprise me if Petey followed McD to Omaha. I could really careless about if the guy was a Hawk or not, if he is the best man for the job and is going to help this team get better bring him on board.

There is really no loyalty to a certain school when it comes to coaches. Coaching is a job and coaches do whatever helps move them up the ladder. Fans look at things such as loyalty to a certain school being the most important thing. Not so with coaches, to them a good opportunity no matter where or when is the most important thing. I have no problem with that.

I can't see it happening, but if it does i don't think there will be an eppic meltdown by Iowa fans. I'd welcome him aboard, but I am not sure he would do that. We have to realize it is a GA position, I don't think Hawk fans will be too upset. Now if Horner would take over ISU in 5 years, then they'd freak.

Can GA's be involved with recruiting?
I think some people might be thinking too highly of the GA spot, especially in bball coaching. I knew a couple of GA's and really all they did was assist in practices and then when the game starts they sit on the bench and record stats. It's not that big of a deal, either way.
The only GA's that I know that really have a bigger part in the team is Strength and Conditioning GA's.

Horner would be a plus in recruiting Iowa since current recruits grew up watching him play, so if he wants to be a Clone and Fred wants him it should be a good hire.

And the reason we would like him on staff is???????????????????

Not that great of a player. In my opinion can be very standoffish in public, and certainly is arrogant. Doesn't seem like Fred's kind of guy.

Just saying.................
