Jantz named the starter

Barnett's best three games statistically came against the two worst B12 defenses (Tech and Kansas, even though tat wasn't impressive)), and against one of the conferences worst run defenses in OSU. We didn't have Lenz and Reynolds against KU so that surely didn't help him out though. We really struggled offensively against the better defensive teams he played.

I am definitely happy that Steele was named starter.
This is a good analysis. I will say this, I believe a lot of the average looking play that the quarterbacks have presented in the spring and in the fall probably has more to do with the defense they have to go against in practice. This will be one of the best defenses in the Big 12 and going against that daily will only help Jantz.

Best part of this is that I can pull the #2 superman shirt out of the bottom of the drawer. I thought it was kinda silly to wear it while he was the backup, but now I'll be sporting that next Saturday. Hopefully he performs cause I wouldn't want to be wearing that while calling for Barnett to get a chance.

Wearing the #2 shirt while Steele was the backup was technically correct.

I don't really think CPR wanted JB to come in last year. We looked awful against UT, MU, and aTm before he had to pull the trigger. I think Jantz was CPR's guy and Barnett was Herman's guy. Especially evident in the bowl game with Herman leaving and JB was pulled....what a great opportunity to get "your' guy back in and re-open this "competition". All of the pre-bowl talk was about SJ being 100% for the bowl and how well he practiced. He comes in and plays like crap. However today, we find out he wasn't 100%. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he doesn't like JB. However, I think SJ will have a very long leash this season so RustShack, don't sweat it.
Sorry to be so late to the conversation but this is CPR's team. I don't buy that for a second. If CPR wanted Jantz he'd have put him in whenever he wanted. Sometimes things are just as simple as putting in the guy that's best and healthy. CPR wants to win...whoever he feels will do that for us will get the start.

iirc, sage rosenfels senior stats had more INT's than touchdowns. Something like 10 TDs and 16 INT. He also had 6 rushing TDs and the stats listed on the back of his rookie card say 16 TD and 16 INT.

I was surprised to see that a few years ago, as I remember him being more impressive than those stats would indicate. (A lot of other things go into that of course)

I agree that this is CPR's team and he can do whatever he wants. But head coaches usually let their coordinators make the personnel decisions. Especially since they are involved more in the coaching, film study, etc. In the case of the bowl game there was no OC going forward. This is my observation. I'm definitely not expecting anyone on CF to agree with it.

^This says Sage had 8 passing TDs to 12 INTs, with 10 rushing TDs.

That year, we had 27 rushing TDs on the season to only 9 passing TDs.

I was going to be upset either way! i guess i would have rather have JB start because he is only a soph. my point is that by the time JB is a senior he would have a ton of experience. I would rather go through growing pains with JB he would blossom by his jr year. two good years rather than maybe an above average year from Jantz

I have a feeling that JB might not be the starter next year either. We have 2 extremely good QB's right behind him that might prevent him from being the man.

Everything is lining up for Jantz to have a great season. Hes obviously very talented. The biggest growth from a player is after their second spring practice. The offense will be simplified, while being the same basics... he should have no problems having it down now. Hes completely healthy. The offense will be more run based, and our OC wont be out smarting himself.

Run it down their throats. Call a few play action deep passes when they start stacking the box and repeat. This defense and running game will keep us in nearly every game. If we need a hero in the fourth quarter, Jantz will be there.

Only problem with that, it will likely be between Richardson and Rohach for the starting job next year. It will be a "three man race" again though.

But CPR might be one of the many coaches who prefer experience... so I could see it be heavily weighted in Barnett's favor unless hes just getting blown away in practice.
