Jantz named the starter

Me too. I would have been pretty happy either way because I can understand the reasoning for picking either guy.

I think Jantz has plenty of talent and if the offense can focus more on the run game I think it can help him focus when he does need to pass rather than trying to throw it 40 times a game.

Because if given the opportunity, Cyclone fans would complain about the quality of toilet paper in the bathrooms at JTS. They would complain about Clone cones not being cold enough. Pretty sure it is in the blood of Cyclone fans to complain and bicker.
 
Okay, as far as I know, there are no D1 QB coaches posting on this board. SJ won the QB battle based on what he did in practice this Summer, not what happened last year. Some of you guys act like CPR pick him just to make you mad, without reguard for giving his team the best chance to win. JB did some nice things last year, and he may end up playing again this year, but for now the coach thinks he has the best guy based on what he did in camp.
 
Let's throw this out there. If we had not won the Okie St game, how would you vote? From the sound of it, that win is the reason some of you are saying he should be the starter. Barnett was only a piece of that win. Benton, Woody, White, and Johnson are some names that come to mind that played a significant role. If they had not contributed the way they did, and Barnett played the game the way he did, I'm guessing we don't leave with a win. Don't get me wrong, JB had some huge numbers, but he also did some things that could have easily been the reason we could have lost had it not been for the play of the names mentioned above.

Yeah, I did get a little worried when he was running around the pocket trying to get rid of the ball. That might have been from my old flag football coach screaming "never run backwards!" He was mainly talking about the quarterback, but I can still hear him yelling it now.
 
I would like to congratulate Steele for winning the QB job this year for the opener.

One thing is for sure and that is the drunk guys behind me are already getting their vocal warm-ups in for chanting "Put Barnett in!"

Blasphemy! Clones cones are always served at the perfect temperature. Yeah I guess our fans to like to complain about quite a bit though.

This is crazy. We can't pick and choose certain games to help a debate. Jantz played great against Iowa and Jared played great against Okie State. No reason to tear down one kid to help your argument of another. Both are Cyclones, both are good kids, and are going to be key to us winning games this year in some way shape or form.

Not exactly. I'm glad the QB competition is over, because now the team can move forward with a definitive starter; but my personal preference was JB. Mainly because I remember how Jantz played in the first three quarters of the UNI game. And the first three quarters of the UConn game. And the Texas game. And the Missouri game. And the first quarter of the A&M game before he was yanked.

In fact, removing about six quarters of play last year (Iowa, 4th quarter UNI & UConn), Jantz was not a good quarterback. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt by believing most of that had to do with his inexperience and later his injury. Hopefully a year of experience and healing has made him a much better player. But I remember that when Barnett came in against A&M, the offense looked much better. It was efficient, and gave the team a chance to compete. Same with Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Kansas State.

Granted, Barnett had bad games and bad stretches too (Kansas, Oklahoma, Pinstripe Bowl), but overall, I thought the offense performed better with Barnett as QB. That's why I wanted him to start. Not just his performance against OSU.

One is ranked 108th and the other ranked 110th. In the NCAA QB ratings.
 
My gut does not feel good about this, damn you gut! I hope I a very wrong in every possible way.

Everyone keeps pointing out the UNI game (which ISU won BTW). I wasn't there, but listened to the radio. My main memory was how P.O.'ed Bruns was of the crappy blocking the O-line did. Basically, he thought that most of the game SJ was running for his life.
