Jamie Pollard's Status at ISU

Whoever said the program was going nowhere under DM is an idiot. ISU had been to a few bowl games before he took us to 5 in 6 years!!! Those who say he HAD to go are mentally ******** (shouldn't say that, i know) but use your brain. It is like the people that said Eustachy HAD to go when he took us to unprecedented success. Hell, we should have fired Fennelly when he took us to the Elite 8. That Volleyball coach needs to go if we don't have the same success this year. We are Iowa State---the loveable losers!!!
I really dont think he should be fire. However if McD gets that can, because I, personally, think that was more of a PR hire to get people to jump on board with his ideas.
I'll give JP at least another 5-7, before I start to question that hire. IMHO, he is doing a fantastic job.

I agree with half of your post the other half, I would have to say that you like many other Cyclone fans are stuck in the past.

Increased Cyclone Club Membership - check
Promoted Cyclone Athletics like on other AD - check
Began Facility Improvement - check
Built BB Practice Facility - check
Now as far a Hiring Coaches:
a) Went out and got the Best Possible Coach Available at the Time (Chizle-****).
b) Gave Resources for Coach to pay his Co-Ordinatiors a BUTT load of money.
c) Let Chizle-**** have complete control of FB and it burned him, but you do not throw the Baby out with Bathwater.
I Love Pollard, he is the best AD that ISU has ever had. Pollard is not allowed to tackle, kick FG's or shoot 3's, but he can upgrade facilities, promote Cyclone Athletics, Sell Season Tickets, and Hire the Best Coaches Available with a limited Budget. Thankyou.

We've had this discussion. The "fire pollard" faction is a vocal minority. Not much else to say.
Considering ALL of us we amazed at the Chizik hire - he's safe (yes it sucks how that eneded, but we were all amazed we got him at the time)
Many thought McDermot(sp?) was a great grad too - he's safe (yes it hasn't gotten to were we want to go yet)
With the improvements to Hilton and Trice I'm very happy with JP. He also made other moves that are great. Yes BBall and Football are going to get the most attention... but so far I put everything on the coaches for what's gone wrong not JP. At the times we all really seemed to llike the hires made - just didn't work.

His fate will ultimately be decided by the won-loss records for FB and MBB. These programs may well start winning in the future, but they have not gotten off to a good start in the Pollard era.
We finished 06-07 and 07-08 with losing records in both FB and MBB. FB has since added another losing season. The last time that we had 2 consecutive years with losing programs in both sports was 32 years ago in 1976.
Pollard has a great ability to sell hope for the future. In order to keep that hope going, the guys he hired will have to start winning more games than the guys he fired.

I think Chizik did him a favor and bought him some time with the FB program because Chizik was on a road to a disasterous ending here I think. I think the Men's BB team is starting to turn a corner and that GMac will be given at least 1 more season after this. I do think we will have a winning season this year since we are already 12-5 and just need 4 more wins to be 16-15. I would love to see this team go at least 8-8 in the conference which would put them at 19-12 and a first round win in the Big 12 tourney would likely get us a NIT bid.

Do you realize that a very high % of the fanbase had made it known that football ticket sales would take a dive if McCarney came back the following season? Yes, McCarney had to go. No doubt about it.
If you'd been paying attention, Pollard did say that the whole Chizik situation did do one thing - it raised a lot of needed money. We would have lost $ if McCarney would have stuck around.

I strongly disagree. McCarney did not need to go. He is, was and always will be the best option for us. Unless of course Ditka wants to come here.
