Jack Trice throwback uniforms again?

AGREE!!! I like the solid colors Cardinal on Cardinal or Gold on Gold. We obviously need to do something to get better recruits. Once again we will start doing this stuff 5 years from now when changing up uniforms will become "old news". Look how bad are football facilities were compared to the rest of the league and then once we finally upgraded them it's only good enough to compare them the same as most other schools in the league!

1. Need to have at least 4 Uni options.

2. No more Smoke on the Water intro.

Mobile like! More you mix up the uniforms the better. I don't get trying to establish a "brand." Currently our brand is a historically awful program. How about keep it fresh and upto the times! Multiple uni options. The players would love it and so will the recruits.

Why not put both on...prepare to have your mind blown...the same helmet??? Funnel on one side, word logo on the other. There's no rule saying the same thing must be on each side of the helmet.

Someday football will go back to the clean, classic looks that we all know are the best--baseball already did, basketball is wavering right now and will figure it out soon. Soon as this happens, this era in college sports is going to look horrifically dated (think the Tequila sunrise Astros or the Chicago White Sox in shorts... "innovative" at the time but now complete embarrassments). No sport is more about pomp and tradition than college football. I'd figure the uniforms--the very clothing and symbol of the school--should reflect that.

Rather watch this a million times...

Than feel like I'm watching an ugly high school game...

I thought our current set was meant as a "modernization/clean-up" of the Peach Bowl uniforms from 2007 in the first place, though?

It was. And I think most agree it was an improvement over the too-busy "bird in a blender." This became the new problem:

That's why so many of us are begging for something like a white helmet. You can still have alternate unis without losing the "classic" look.

I like today's jersey schemes alright, I think the best current combo is either the home cardinal jersey/gold pants or the away with cardinal helmet, white jersey, gold pants (see Texas away game last year.) All gold is only okay at best. Anything with blue back in the day looked terrible. 2007 throwbacks were great, especially helmets. Would love to see them again. JT throwbacks from 2013 weren't as good, but don't mind seeing them again for one game.

Or, how about the funnel cloud design on both sides with the current I-State logo superimposed over it?
Or, the I-State logos on both sides and the funnel cloud design on the center back?

For one game a year, you can't go wrong. These are my preferences: 1. Cy-Hawk throwback. 2. Trice throwback 3. white/white 4. gold/gold 5. current uni 6. red/red

For future years, I like the dark gold helmets, numerals, and pants (49ers look); but I don't like the swoop logo or maroon with the dark gold.

I'll take any opportunity to bring these back up... Originally posted by amestoplease in the *New Uniform Thread*

The only thing I would do different is put the Trice stripes on the pants on the bottom facing up; basically mirror the shoulders.

Wow, I must have missed this before. Love it.

Yes it would be problematic to bring back the funnel logo since have been emphasizing the I-State logo. But you could do it once a year, and then maybe after a few years evaluate make it the helmet logo (or secondary mark, or whatever).

It's too bad we sold the rights to our true gold color schemes long long ago. That's when the ugly mustard yellow came on. I love the mock up uni he does and I like them because the gold is Gold but we can't ever use it. I personally liked the throwback Unis. But I'm with a lot of others that feel we need to change our Unis to be more current like Oregon, Baylor etc...players love cool Unis...CPR is sooooo stubborn. Heck white helmets would go a long way IMO.

How do you sell a color scheme and why can't we use it in the future?

Gross, you probably like Sweet Caroline too.

Don't knock Sweet Caroline. It's the only 3 mins of the entire game where the students enjoy themselves. Why would we take that away? Some might only show up for that.

This is untrue. It's a complete fallacy that we are not free to use a true gold in our color scheme.

Yeah, the list of uniforms we've worn that are uglier than the Jack Trice throwbacks has a few entries, and is topped by this abomination:

I know I'm in the minority but I love those. I always thought a yellow version of the helmet would be slick with that.

I hate to say it, but Iowa is a good example of what we need to do. Develop a look and stay with it. All you have to do is see the logo and you recognize Iowa Hawkeyes. What ever we pick it needs to brand us for many years to come. Changing with every new coach or athletic director does not lend itself to developing a brand. And branding a winning program is much easier to do then branding one that has a reputation for loosing.

I think you loose.
