***ISU WBB @ Vanderbilt***

Just wonder who offered her. Seriously.
Also, are we running an offense that develops a post at all? No, BF just flashes them at the elbow and then they cut back down low and locate ball side. Junior high stuff. No interior screens, no picks and pass away, no plays to draw double teams to leave the post with room to operate. Please.
Maybe Schaben would run a different offense if she had a choice? She's our best coach, IMO.

While our post play is weak, whether it is recruiting or development or play calling, its our leaky zone non aggressive defense that is our biggest problem.

Couldn't agree more. How many women's players even to choose to keep their dribble while facing ball pressure? Very few. With Buckley gone, I know we don't have anyone who does.
Yet we let opponents stay in their comfort zone and let them run their offense.

If it makes anyone feel better, Sherri Cole and her Sooners are 3-3 and got beat by Arkansas- Little Rock. And she still has to play Florida (although P5, Gators suck) in the SEC thingy and than go out east to play UCONN. She's made the NCAA's 18 years running.

Hey, @geewago , what's up with the Sooners?
Basically the same thing that has happened to ISU in the last 4 or 5 years. Cherry Cola brought in some top ranked recruiting classes for quit a while. After Courtney Paris left it seems she has struggled ever since to get the type of ranked recruits she was getting.

I know that not all the fans seem to be that "high" on Prospect Nations recruit ranking system. But I'll tell you what you can do. Just look at where they rate the various schools on a particular year, then check the polls 2 years later and that's normally where you'll see that school ranked in the polls unless they lose the class to transfers or injuries. In other words if a school gets 2 classes that PN ranks as top 10 you can durn near bet the farm that school will finish in the top 10 AP poll the next 2 to 3 years.

Just to show where I'm coming from, take a look at this years recruits and how PN ranks them.

TX got the #1, #6, #44 & # 80
BU got the #2, #3, #5, #27 & # 85
OU got the #8, # 24 & # 90.
ISU got #28, #116,& #136
KST got #20, #140 & #146
KU got #53, #122
TCU got #112
TT got 0 that were ranked.

Barring some freakish bizarre happenings you can pretty much count on the above teams finishing in the conference very close to the ranking of their recruits. There are always a few who fly under the radar and there's always a few good highly ranked JC guards that can infuse a team very quickly. But Post players out of JC?? Hardly ever do they pan out. I've followed WBB for nigh 40 years now and I cant remember over 4 Post players out of JC that made a huge impact and could compete with the big programs. The latest being Adjut Vulgat (sp) who went to Florida ST and helped them to a top 10 ranking. She was outstanding.

So there's my take on it. sorry for the length.

Lol - look at the post "talent" she's been given. You seriously think Kennedy-Hopoate is a Big 12 caliber player??

Our posts shot 6/16 from the field - 37.5% from your post players isn't going to win you a lot of games. Where has Schaben been in developing Burkhall's shot? Why does Burkhall still have horrible hands when it comes to rebounding? Burkhall is a junior and there has been no improvement in her shot or rebounding from her freshman year.

Guess these two know NOTHING about talent.

http://www.cyclones.com/news/2017/4...-add-bride-kennedy-hopoate-to-2017-class.aspx

From Keil Moore (@KeilMoorePSB), a recruiting analyst for Prospectsnation.com:

"Adding a post player like Bride Kennedy-Hopoate is a move that Iowa State fans will love," Moore said. "Offensively she has a great feel for the game and will be able to contribute as a scorer and a passer. Defensively she embraces contact and will be a willing rebounder. Look for her to make an immediate impact at Iowa State."

From Bret McCormick, a recruiting analyst for All Star Girls Report:

"Bride Kennedy-Hopoate from Hutchinson, Kansas and Queensland, Australia is a 6-3 post with skills," McCormick said. "She has inside and outside game and is a great passer and rebounder. She can score in all ways and if she wants to really apply herself has WNBA potential."

Didn't have the chance to watch the game. But I will watch the next game and make a point out of keeping track of how many screens are set on offense. Burkhall and Kennedy-Hopoate, should be setting 2+ screens per trip down the floor. That's what big bodies are for.

I'm impressed the team are able to score like they do, because they get zero easy baskets per game. The whole point of screening, cutting and moving the ball is to give the defense more opportunities to screw up and get your team an open shot.

Couldn't agree more about the zone. I think we should be playing some zone to mix things up, but the primary thing like someone said earlier is that we switch things up and try to get teams uncomfortable.

I would always prefer us to play man to man, and switching things up with zone occasionally. And while we are at it opponents are shooting 37,2% on threes this year... Maybe time to move away from that zone...

I actually enjoy watching this team. We make a lot of mistakes, but I think their effort is excellent. I hate to see all the negative comments. Fact is Jada deciding not to come back this year totally changed the expectations for this year. She would have provided a bridge into the future. We have no D1 point guard right now. Durr is not a point guard, but she is trying to fill a need. Rae is only a freshman. We are really inexperienced, so things are not always going to be pretty. The future is bright, we just need to let this team grow and improve.

I love the team, and I will be rooting for them all year. We're still playing caveman basketball though. No one is critical of the players, I hear criticism directed at the coaches and I think they should be getting some heat. ISU has great potential for women's basketball and the program has been in decline for a while now.

Being critical of the coaches is not the same as not supporting the team.

Speaking of WBB, and we are :) , Notre Dame plays UCONN at 3:00 on ESPN.

Hoping UCONN crushes them. I am a little cranky about the special treatment the hypocrite Muffet got in having Shepard immediately eligible while preaching against transfers. Hate her I got mine **** everyone else attitude.

It's not Jadda's fault there are no PG's to succeed her. I mean, they've had four years?

BS
Being critical of a portion affects the whole. Dont make recruiting harder and dont throw doubt into current and future players.

You prioritize recruiting based on need. We needed a PG next year. Bring Rae in this year and then Rae will be a capable replacement next year. If CBF knew Jadda was leaving before the rest of us knew, then criticize away.

Do not question the experts who tell you we have problems. They know more about the program than the coaches do.

Inexperienced players make mistakes. They will get better. The effort is great. The program did have a couple down years, but I don't think it can be said it is on a decline right now. We only have two seniors and the freshman class has tons of potential. The 2019 class is possibly even better. All I am saying is, we may take some lumps this year, but things are going in the right direction.

Also, I doubt staff planned on TeeTee wanting to leave either.

Think this though. That reasoning means any criticism of one part of an organisation is the same as critizising every member of the organisation.

So if one of the coaches was convicted of a violent crime, any criticism of that coach would somehow be a criticism of Nia Washington? Makes zero sense...

In Pollard I trust.
