I am going to go out on a limb here and say that ISU will win pretty significantly... UNI had a great win this weekend but i think that our players will improve tremendously from week 1 to week 2. I think Bret Meyer will dust off and sharpen up and i think we will see another big game out of JJ Bass. These guys are hungry, i have spoken to a few.. They are going to be playing for blood this saturday. I think i am just as excited for this upcoming saturday because i think we didnt see the true ISU vs Kent State. I think we have a lot of ponys under the hood once we figure out a way to harness it and i truely think we will see a vast improvement this week.

Do I think there will be significant improvements from Thursday night to Saturday? Yes.

Do I think it will be enough? I'm not sure.

There were just so many things that went wrong. Our players talked about "needing to clean up the little things". Normally, when a BCS school is saying that after playing someone from a MAC-type conference, it's after a closer win than they would've liked.

Well, that wasn't the case. There were more than just little things that need to be addressed. I'm not trying to be doom-n-gloom...just being completely realistic.

We sure as hell can't let Sanders look like Colt McCoy against us again.

I just have this feeling.... and i had a feeling before kent state that it could be bad.... so i am just going with my gut

33, have you heard anything about any possible position changes? Some guys I might be looking at losing a starting spot include Robinson (duh), Singleton and maybe looking to get someone bigger than Braaksma on the line.

This team will go as far as Bret Meyer goes.

If our defense must protect our offense after they go 3 and out time after time, we will struggle against UNI.

If our D can rest and our offense can help win the field position battle we should be fine in more games than most think.

Amen to that.

Just as they did last year in about every game, our offense left our defense hung out to dry Thursday night.

That can't continue to happen if we want to win any games this fall.

Not attacking either you or Meyer, just an honest question:

You said you expect Meyer to "dust off and sharpen up" this week. Why would he be doing that now, instead of before Kent State? It just seems like preparing for D-I football is something he should have done earlier.

Ive just heard that JJ Solidified his starting spot at RB.. Robinson had a pretty decent game, I still think we will see him off and on at RB, especially the way that JJ works. He is going to need some breathers. And yes, we are looking for some size on the D Line, We didnt plug anything up against Kent State.

Ok...so what have you heard on Scales...because him not seeing any carries and just a couple snaps surprised me.

Bass definitely did earn that starting job.

so what have you heard on Scales

I havent heard anything but I think its simple as talent.

Bret had a wakeup call on Thursday night and he realizes it. He is kicking himself all over the place for that game and he knows he needs to pick it up. His starting spot is on the line. If he dont pick it up soon.... Arnaud and Bates will be in there. And Bret is aware of that. He said that he made mistakes that a senior should have never made and relizes he needs to step up. The Kent State game lit a fire underneath him. We all know he can do it

Well I certainly hope he does, because it would thrill me to see him bury old demons from '06 and have a good '07.

That bolded part in intrigued me. So, if (and I stress IF) Bret were to get benched, who comes in? Arnaud is listed as the #2 guy but I realized Thursday night I can't put too much faith in the 2-deeps - plus - Bates was the one that saw a little action Thursday.

Or, were you eluding to a 2 QB system should Chizik sit Meyer?

Correct, If meyer get benched for any reason. we should see both Bates and Arnaud. Everyone is impressed with Bates' Maturity already. Its going to take a pretty poor performance to get Meyer benched.. if he throws INTs like he did the other night.. I think it will happen. But like i said, Meyer is ready to step it up, he has a sense of urgency
