ISU vs. Kent State

I predict A-Rob will have an amazing game, like 150+ yards of rushing and 2 + TDs. Defense will show they are legit by forcing 4 turnovers and taking another interception back to the house. Final score, ISU 41-18

Very well said.

I expect us to win this game. There is no reason not to at this point in time. If we are going to turn the corner with Iowa State Football we have to expect to win games when we play opponents from smaller conferences.

I expect us to win this game in a fashion that doesn't require us to open our playbook up too much and require us to strain ourselves in the 4th quarter. If we are fighting these guys tooth and nail in the 4th we have reason to worry. Look at Toledo, UNI, and UNLV from 2006. That should have been an indication of what was to come the rest of the season.

If we have to do that now, with this team that is in its 2nd year in a system and showed as much improvement at the end of last season and the start of this one. We should be very, very worried.

For those of you who hide behind them beating us last year. You are right, but I think you're missing one important factor. We were terrible. Absolutely abysmal last year. We played a very passive defense the whole game (and against UNI too) and an offense that looked like it knew no more than 15 plays. Compare that to now. They playbook is open, the players have it memorized, and we have a defense that would rather dictate the pace of the game than let it come to them. Vastly different mentality in only one year's time.

I'm not saying it won't be close, but if we want to change the face of Iowa State Football we need to be as enthusiastic about winning games as the players are. And we know they're fired up.

My prediction: 34-14 Iowa State.

I do agree with a lot of what you said, but I would expect to have some struggles and strains at the beginning of year two of a massive overhaul project, including against teams we shouldn't be struggling against, regardless if this team is highly upgraded from last season. Not saying it's wrong to think we're going to blow teams out that we should be blowing out, just saying that it's foolish to get worked up if the game ends up being closer than some would consider comfortable, considering the circumstances (year #2, lots of freshmen/sophomores playing, etc.)

Oh I certainly agree. I won't be jumping off any bridges if we only win this game 20-17 or by a similar score.

However, if we lose it or have to go 3 OTs (Toledo), depend on a missed FG (UNI) or make a last second goal line stand with a pass that was complete but out of bounds (UNLV); I will be pretty concerned about where we will end up in the Big XII.

I expect struggles. I don't expect a loss.

Edit: I know saying I would be ok with 20-17 and then saying what I did may seem a bit contradictory but I was envisioning a 20-17 win where we kneel down at the end or they score a junk TD.

Im going to get crap for this but....

Kent State 24

Yeah, but I certainly hope this year is nothing like last year. My point was that if people thought we'd barely take care of a MAC team what do they think is gonna happen when we get to the Big 12? I think we need to get some swagger back as a team and as a fan base. I'm not saying go over board but we should start showing some swagger as a fan base not 'I hope we beat Kent st.'.

Personally, I'm not going to show any swagger unless were 4-0 going into the Big 12 season.

j.j. bass comes in the 2nd quarter and proceeds to score 5 tds in the game.
isu 45 kent state 7.

I'm not saying I think it will be a blowout...but I can only assume the folks here that think it will be a close one score type game believe we have zero shot at Iowa next week. Because Iowa is much, much, much better than Kent St. and its AT iowa.

I'm just saying I hope the same folks predicting a close win don't come on here next week predicting a win over Iowa. How do people expect us to win a single conference game if we can't hanlde KSU by a comfortable margin? Seriously.

You can't compare Kent State to Iowa - it's a rivalry game and that completely changes things.

As for why I doubt it'll be a complete blowout, others have mentioned it but we were still havign trouble tackling, some fumbles, special teams still needed some work. We've made progress, but we still have progress to make. We've certainly imroved over last year but we aren't done correcting those problems yet, hence the cautious optimism

Kent State looked good against us last year because we were awful to begin the season. They finished 3-9 and 1-7 in the powerful MAC conference.

Sorry, I don't see this being a close game.

I honestly think this will be a huge test for us. We're going to have to tackle much better than we did against SDSU to slow down their running game. They have better athletes and a more balanced offense than SDSU. Take away our big defensive plays and look at the stats from the game and you'll see that it wasn't a big blow out. We'll win...but it'll come down to late in the 4th quarter. We need a tough game before Iowa to get us primed.

And if you take away 2 TDs and a field goal we post a shutout and win by 44.

ISU 20 KSU 17. They beat us by 9 last year and have more players returning. I think our offense will be slightly better than last week, and our defense won't be getting as many turnovers. Our punter will get quite a few reps tomorrow. We should score about as many points as BC did against them.

This is probably the only game I'll be able to attend this year.

I think in our case some of the players that we lost fall into the addition by subtraction class. We are much more athletic and we have a hunger to win games that quite frankly I didn't see last year. We have got some playmakers on both sides of the ball and we aren't talking about one or two either. Kent State will keep it close.................... in the 1st quarter and then we will show them that the BC game was a cakewalk. ISU 38 - Kent State 7

I think we win 31-17. I don't get people saying "take away all the turnover we got and the sdsu game would have been different." They were forced turnovers. We position and play for these. Jarvis ran for a little over 100 (116?) last year. I think we pound the ball early and spread it a little in the middle and pound it late.

We also wouldn't have won if we hadn't scored all those touchdowns, and if Mahoney missed kick after kick:wink::no:

We will destroy Kent State. They will need help to have the will to drag themselves to the bus.

Don't forget the points lost on turnovers--that won't happen today. That's another 2-3 touchdowns lost.

Even Kent State has said that they were fortunate to catch us last year as they did--the first game under a new coach, etc.

People have to get used to the idea that this is a different Cyclone team than last season--indeed, in quite a few seasons. Sure, they'll have their ups and down, but not today. This ain't your father's Oldsmobile.

Chizik will sub so often the team will never get into sync and this will be a close game (win), but we will have a lot of young players with more experience and game film to work on getting better. ISU will fans will be here saying if this and that; woulda, coulda, shoulda. Building a team is a time consuming process and they need different game experiences to learn from th be ready for the Big 12.

Iowa will leave the starters until the 4th quarter, win big, suffer a couple of injuries (Ohio State cough cough) and think they are a top 25 team if they were healthy.

Most everyone on here was predicting an ISU blowout... mostly on the basis of Kent State being bad. For the second year in a row, I came away impressed with Kent State (especially Jarvis and Edelman). If not for the turnovers, I think they probably beat us again. Does anyone else think they might make some noise in the MAC this year?
