ISU -Iowa Post Game Thread

I am going to be smiling for weeks.

I said I'd be at the 50 after we won and there I was, standing at the 50, just basking in the glory of it all.

Post Coverage: 105.1 Channel Q's Webcast. There is something wrong with the volume. I'm holding my computer speakers to my ears. I really need to get some headphones. I don't know if this is on there by mistake, but you can hear it if its right up against your ears and turned all the way up.

Bret had a brilliant first half - more typical second. But it's the best, by far, of the season - or last season for that matter. Some of his faults I'll blame on some "odd" playing calling, IMO.

That last drive hopefully will give him a shot in the arm. The Bates catch was obviously the play of the game. I'll give Shag all the credit in the world. He flat out won it.

But easily, the MVP was the Defense. No question about it. Not like iowa is a world-beater team. But to hold them to 13, a first half shutout, is just unbelieveable and undoubtly the reason we won.

Still worried to no end that we can't put the ball in the endzone and only managed a single score (FG) in the second half.

But live it up tonight boys. Big win - can't underSTATE that.

Re: <<<anxiously awaiting an article from Mr. Keeler

I doubt Keelor will give us any credit, he will focus on the failures of Iowa.

We just flat out dominated them. The defense brought their lunch pail today and did some serious work. 165 yards against any team, especially Iowa, is no small task.

I feel great for Shaggy, his name was being chanted as he did a post game interview with a local tv station. For a man who has had some tough times, to finally get one just feels great for everyone.

Watching on TV, I didn't see those 10000 of empty seats the squawks told us we would have....

Props to the Cyclones

A great, great gameplan, a coaching staff that clearly was able to keep their kid's focus during trying times these past two weeks, a patient Bret Meyer that took what the Iowa defense gave him, a defensive effort that was brilliantly executed.

And to Shaggy, who has taken a lot of heat, but who never has to buy a dinner in this state again.

As bummed as I am with the loss, and I am certainly bummed, I have to tip my cap to the Cyclones on this day, who dictated the tempo for much of the game, who overcame mistakes and the momentum rolling the other way, and who were smart enough to take advantage of Iowa's head scratching decision through the years to put LB's on WR's.

Congrats.

GO CYCLONES!

A few things:

1. O-line: Gave Brett a ton of time today. That fumble was because he was scrambling with only 2 points of contact w/ the ball. Can't fault the O-line for that one.
2. Defense: Holy sh*t, way to come through guys. Pitch a shut-out in the first half and then buckle down when it comes time. Brilliant effort, no doubt. The blocked FG w/ 6:30 to go was a gamebreaking performance. Pat yourselves on the back guys, you earned it.
3. Shaggy: G*d d*mn it's good to see you hit a game-winner. I'll take 5-6 any day, especially when it's enough for the W.
4. Chizik: Get it done when it counts. I've been thinking that our biggest problem this year was just mental toughness. If today's game was any indicator, this team is finally starting to get some. Congratulations on your first W, sir. And might I add, it couldn't be a bigger one.

GO CYCLONES!!!!

Re: Props to the Cyclones

I thought the gameplan was great on both sides of the ball. Iowa looked like they didn't care for most of the game.

Well, Iowa didn't care because it's not their super bowl, don't ya know...ya right, this game meant a lot to Iowa and they frickin choked. Suck it Hawkeyes.

Congrats to my CYCLONES! I was following along using the live stats on the ISU website. Great win. Defense and kicker deserve the most cudos. Throwback jerseys must be good MOJO also.
Congratulations to Chizik on his first win!

Now let's get a few more! :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Re: <<<anxiously awaiting an article from Mr. Keeler

I doubt Keelor will give us any credit, he will focus on the failures of Iowa.

I hope he also focuses on the fact that Iowa just isn't that good. I have no dilusions of grandeur. We are still not a very good team. We played much better today, but, I found it very disturbing we couldn't put th ball in the endzone. We are getting further, but, still not really finishing drives like we should. 5 field goals is great for Shaggy, but, really not good for our O. I'd say the big difference today was the fact that we moved the ball a little more consistently during the first half. We were able to keep our D fresh. I started to get worried second half, but, I felt by that time they were playing inspired football. Definite nods to our D today, what a great game guys.

And to all the people that think this game should go away, you are wrong. This is a great game. It sucks when we lose and it's glorious when we win. This is what college football is all about. Congrats to the Cyclone team. You guys played with a lot of heart out there. And congrats to Chizik. I personally find it very inspiring that his first win ever as a Cyclone was against Iowa. Hopefully we can get toledo and start thinking of taking a few games in the Big XII. I'm not looking for a bowl game, but, if we build on this, is year is not as bleak as it may have looked less than 1 week ago.

Way to Go Cyclones!
