ISU Gambling Megathread

Get a grip. We're not talking about a murder here, JFC.

All kinds of things don't rise to the level of sting operation because there are many more serious crimes to focus on. At least one would think so.

I'm still waiting for the jaywalking bombshell in Campustown to drop. Hopefully the DCI is on that one. :D

Can you cite a source that this was a sting operation or explain how it was?

Are you saying it should be OK to gamble?

IT WASN'T A ******* STING OPERATION!

The book's software detected suspicious activity and the book reported it to the DCI because their LICENSE SAYS THEY HAVE TO. The DCI referred the info to the county attorneys to decide on charges which they elected to pursue because THESE PEOPLE BROKE THE LAW.

I would imagine the books are reporting things to the DCI that transpire the exact same way all the time but we just don't hear about them because the people being charged aren't athletes.
Poster clearly doesn't know what a sting is.

Yes the sports books are required to pass the information on to DCI, but my problem with DCI is instead of handing out the $640 fine for underage gambling they try to make this more than it is by putting out the "tampering" charge. And for the players they can't get for underage gambling they also put on the "tampering" charge, talk about grasping for straws and just trying to make a statement.

I think it is fair for people to differ on what they think appropriate charging decisions might be. The DCI did not make those decisions. AND IT WASN'T A ******* STING.

I never said it was a sting. I feel like the charges are really grasping for straws.

Criminally, it should be a fine for the underage players and nothing for the of age players.

Do we know that they weren't offered a fine and instead decided to concoct whatever story that got them a tampering charge?

Lee- sucks, but I trust the staff historically at that position in terms of development

Hanika- was not that impressed last year tbh, and we have a ton of up and coming talent getting rave reviews

Remsburg- was often injured anyway

Dekkers- not a great season last year, supposed leadership issues

Brock- this one hurts the most. We have a lot of depth there, but it's unproven, and he was set to be a star

That's my optimistic analysis of why this won't impact our win total all that much. Add in predicted benefits from new coaching staff and incoming recruits and I am predicting more than 4 wins, potentially up to 7 or 8 if things really click. I'd say 6 wins is what I predict.

This may be over optimistic, but I don't really see a point in being all doom and gloom in August. I'm pumped to see this team gut it out.
I couldnt agree with this more. For whatever reasons, Campbell coached teams seem to thrive when there are no expectations. 7-8 would be incredible given this offseason, but I believe 6 is the most realistic. We get to 7 if we beat Iowa, but i dont know if i see that happening

It probably will be a fine for the criminal activity. Eligibility is over for those who placed bets on ISU. As it should be. And those who bet on college sports will be suspended for some games. I have no problem letting go of players stupid enough to think betting on college sports during their college careers is a good idea. Good riddance.

“Everyone else is doing it, how come we’re the ones in trouble?!?” Seems to be a common theme here, at least.

Well there's over 100 other football players on the roster that aren't in trouble right now so I guess they understood to not make it an issue to start with just because it's different in other states.
