ISU Fball Head Coaches

We literally had the most distracting offseason that I can ever remember. AND it all played out like a month before the season started. One of our losses was due to a lot of players being extremely sick. Adjustments may have been made but I don't attribute any of the early season failures to Coach Campbell. I for one hope he stays at ISU for a very long time.

I wasn't even talking about this season. A lot of the things mentioned in that post were at least partly present for the previous several seasons. We had an offense that (severely) was stagnant and largely underachieved for the talent that was here. Special teams were a ******* fiasco and Campbell was in denial. At least we've seen some positive change (Clanton, STs ) even if some of the offensive stagnation is still present (at times).

I had zero expectations for this season. Really I was wanting to see things heading in the right direction. STs improvement, Rocco, and our skill position players have me feeling like this season was pretty successful.

You complain quite a bit about game performances for someone who had 0 expectations.

Zero expectations for the team (record) doesn't mean I don't want our coach to do things that follow the laws of logic and common sense. Those things aren't mutually exclusive.

So why do you act like everything should be so much better?

You've got some things mixed around here.

When did I ever say "should". The only shoulds coming into this year were the STs (no reason why Campbell couldn't find a way to field a decent group) and some kind of improvement from a terrible OL. I find it hard to believe, as bad as it was last year, there wasn't a way to improve from within or find some guys in the portal.

Other than that there have been little in the way of "shoulds". On the other side of the spectrum you have what you "need" to do in order to win games. On that front I have repeatedly said our front 6 as a group is weak, with the LBs being extraordinarily weak, and that (I think) it would benefit Heacock to play more aggressively as I think it mitigates that weakness while leans on our strength (secondary). On the other side of the ball we started off with some Mickey Mouse play calling, and I'm still not a fan of shot gun snapping in short yardage situations, but there has been some positive strides there. The OL is still weak but they've show strides as a group, particularly last week, in being more cohesive. I've been pleased with Rocco but he has to start hitting some of those open home runs. We are talking 40-50 points potentially lost on him airmailing open guys. That's not a "should" rather a "need" as in we need it if we want to beat the teams other than most of the ones we've beaten thus far.

Make of that what you will. I just think some on here have a really hard time disseminating between expectations vs. the things we need or "should" be doing/trying to do to win games. Often they don't even overlap.

I might have to block you again in basketball season when you expect ISU to play guys that aren't any more productive and and are more foul prone than the starter but I'm gonna enjoy this for now.

Diana died a year later in Aug of 97. The OT loss to Wyoming was Sept 1996..

After the Okla St game in Aug of 97. Freaky thing about that was I saw an accident right in front of me leaving the game and then went home as the news broke.

. . . I just think some on here have a really hard time disseminating . . .
