Why quote me? I'm comparing Conference tournament games to NCAA games. Apparently it's better to win the conference tournament than to win one game in the NCAA tournament.....according to some here anyway.
Yeah wrong Iowa fan in my reply.
Of course a conference tournament title is more valuable than winning just one game in the dance. 30+ teams win a game in the dance every year. Only 6 teams win a major conference tournament a year. That's an easy one.
My bigger point though...
I was quoting an Iowa fan trying to parse the difference between winning the Big Ten and winning the BTT as if he knew how it felt. Maybe he's in his 70s and has a very good memory.
Heck even ISU fans are now 20 years away from knowing what both regular season and tournament titles feel like, even though they have the boatload of conference tournament hardware those back to back regular season B12 titles are getting distant.
I will say that winning the conference outright and not sharing it, winning the B12 tournament, then going to the Elite 8 and finishing ranked 3rd in final polls was awesome.
Winning conference outright without sharing it, but then flaming out in the B12 tournament and NCAA tournament takes the shine off that regular season outright championship. Deep Big Dance success matters above all, winning one game isn't some amazing thing. Season conference title vs conference tournament is a nuanced argument, sometimes the conference title is shared with a team that whooped your *** or even shared by 3-4 teams, in that case the tourney could be more valuable.
Just lending you some perspective if you memory isn't fresh from Iowa's 1979 Big Ten title.
