ISR March to Madness thread

He's not the most decorated player. I mean without even thinking I could name more decorated athletes like Gable, Grayer, Purdy, Cael, Kinnick, etc

You know I meant Basketball. Garza is the most decorated college basketball player this state has ever seen.

Not disagreeing, but still a hell of an accomplishment. I think I said it last year and I'll say it again this year. Garza is the most decorated in state player of all time and now there isn't even a close second.
Until someone else has a burger named after them, that award goes to Adam Emmenecker. LEGEND!

Thanks for the laugh. Two time NPOY, two time Big 10 POY, soon to be a two time consensus AA.
He will be a one time NPOY with an asterisk next to it and let's face it a lot of his legacy will depend on the tourney results

I said most decorated. No one else that has played college bball in Iowa even comes close to Garza and the recognition he has received.

Why quote me? I'm comparing Conference tournament games to NCAA games. Apparently it's better to win the conference tournament than to win one game in the NCAA tournament.....according to some here anyway.

Yeah wrong Iowa fan in my reply.

Of course a conference tournament title is more valuable than winning just one game in the dance. 30+ teams win a game in the dance every year. Only 6 teams win a major conference tournament a year. That's an easy one.

My bigger point though...

I was quoting an Iowa fan trying to parse the difference between winning the Big Ten and winning the BTT as if he knew how it felt. Maybe he's in his 70s and has a very good memory.

Heck even ISU fans are now 20 years away from knowing what both regular season and tournament titles feel like, even though they have the boatload of conference tournament hardware those back to back regular season B12 titles are getting distant.

I will say that winning the conference outright and not sharing it, winning the B12 tournament, then going to the Elite 8 and finishing ranked 3rd in final polls was awesome.

Winning conference outright without sharing it, but then flaming out in the B12 tournament and NCAA tournament takes the shine off that regular season outright championship. Deep Big Dance success matters above all, winning one game isn't some amazing thing. Season conference title vs conference tournament is a nuanced argument, sometimes the conference title is shared with a team that whooped your *** or even shared by 3-4 teams, in that case the tourney could be more valuable.

Just lending you some perspective if you memory isn't fresh from Iowa's 1979 Big Ten title.

I said most decorated. Doesn't get anymore decorated than that.
Congrats to you that Ayo got hurt I guess? I mean Fizer would have won every award if he came back his senior year so I guess you have a point there

Grayer scored over 2500 points in his career. Purdy just was named first team All Conference in a conference that produces QBs and was a NY6 bowl MVP
He said most decorated. Not most loved by you. FWIW.....Grayer was incredible. I had to look and was really surprised he was never even 1st team All-American. Good choice to build a team around? Yes Most decorated? not even close. Purdy's name shouldn't even be in the breath of this conversation.

Yes Grayer was incredible and Purdy is incredible. 2500+ points by Grayer was insane

I feel that a lot more people in Iowa liked both teams before the advent of the Internet. I can remember cheering for Grayer and Hornacek and one of my favorite players to watch of all time was Dedric Willoughby and I liked Horton too. Back then it was more of a state pride thing. Now it is very much a heated rivalry.
